Re: Proud Mary (2018, D: Najafi) S: Taraji P. Henson

That's too bad. Yeah, the reviews have been pretty bad, but I expected that.

What a wasted opportunity.

Re: Proud Mary (2018, D: Najafi) S: Taraji P. Henson

With reviews still being under embargo, odds are pretty high that this film is a dud.

I did like the trailer and had high hopes for the film, but I'm not optimistic at this point.

Re: Red Sparrow (2018, D: Francis Lawrence) S: Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton

It's based on a highly-acclaimed novel, so it has potential to be very good. I'm in.

Re: Proud Mary (2018, D: Najafi) S: Taraji P. Henson

That's normally a very bad sign to not have reviews with just a couple of days before opening.

Re: The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon Discussion Thread

I don't know if that would have the been the right thing to do in terms of ratings, but I agree that Letterman was funnier at the time. Letterman also went through that long period after 9/11 where...

Re: The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon Discussion Thread

Seth Myers is the one who's going to suffer most from this. The one thing in his favor is that expectations are going to be low for a while, so hopefully he's not feeling a lot of pressure.

Re: The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon Discussion Thread

I don't recall anyone saying that about Leno. He was guest-hosting The Tonight Show about 2 days a week during the early 90s and was often getting higher ratings than on the nights that Carson...

Re: So...Late Night with Jimmy Fallon starts tonight.

Yes, that's one of them for sure.

- It's saving NBC about $30 million per year between the NYC tax incentives and the lower salary that Fallon is getting compared to Leno.

- NBC was...

Re: The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon Discussion Thread

That set looked like it was about 1/2 the size of the Burbank set. It felt more like a spruced-up Late Night set than The Tonight Show. I think moving the show back to NY was a big step backwards. ...

Re: NBC: let's see how low we can go (Conan thread, part 2)

I can't understand the thinking of moving The Tonight Show to NY. Fallon is a great host, and much more marketable than Conan was, but the amount of guests is so limited in NY. Kimmel has to be...

Re: The Terminator: Remastered - 2/19/2013

What's so hard about putting the original mono track on there for those of us that can't stand the remix?

No sale here.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009 & 2012 editions)

Mara's performance felt a little forced to me as well. Rapace was a natural in the role.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009 & 2012 editions)

This post pretty much nails it. ^^^^^

Fincher made a great film, but Rooney Mara isn't nearly as good as Noomi Rapace.

Re: Lolita and Barry Lyndon coming in 2011

Good work Jay G. If you were a lawyer in a courtroom arguing this case, you would certainly win. The thing that boggles my mind is how Vitali can defend 1.77, when as you pointed out, this wasn't...

Re: Lolita and Barry Lyndon coming in 2011

For those interested in the aspect ratio debate, Glenn Kenny released this letter today which is pretty interesting.

Re: NBC: let's see how low we can go (Conan thread, part 2)

Look, Conan is better, funnier, edgier, hipper, etc. But he is not nor will he ever be more popular than Leno. Why can't people just enjoy the new Conan show instead of trying to construct some...

That pretty much sums up my thoughts. I was extremely disappointed but I wouldn't say I hated it.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

While it isn't as bad as a Michael Bay film, it's damn close. It's certainly entertaining visually but there's not much else good I can say about it.

What a huge letdown.

Maybe if you go in...

Re: Coppola or Kubrick?

I would certainly take Kubrick over Hitchcock. Hitchcock pretty much stuck to the same genre, while Kubrick tried something new with each outing. Not to take anything away from Hitch, but he's not...

re: UPDATE: Apocalypse Now 2-Disc & 3-Disc (w/ Hearts of Darkness) Announced 10/19/2010

That would be fine with me since the film was first released theatrically at 2.20 as the original release were the 70mm blow-up prints. The 35mm prints came later with the tacked-on explosion ending.

Re: What kind of (Penn & Teller) Bullsh*t is this? (the Non-Complete Season 7 DVDs)

Any update on what happened here? Surely they've commented on why it isn't there by now. I just can't seem to find anything using search engines.

Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS

I think you're right. It's a terrible career move. Even if the money wasn't right, at the very least he should have tried syndication. He's got more than enough money from the NBC settlement and...

Re: Favorite Quentin Tarantino Film?

I totally agree. City On Fire isn't a very good film. It just bothers me that he refuses to acknowledge where he got the material from. First he says "I'm dying to see it!" and then years later he...

Re: Favorite Quentin Tarantino Film?

The thing that excludes Reservoir Dogs for me is that it's pretty much a blatant rip-off of City On Fire. Tarantino claims that he had never seen the film, but it's pretty hard to buy that story...
