Re: Monty Python's Flying Circus - HD Restored Blu-ray - 11/4/19

Wasn’t a lot of it on tape? All that will be upconverted. I’ve wanted to own this series for years but the DVDs were always so expensive and it was easy enough to find on streaming. Maybe if this...

Re: Sega Genesis Mini coming 9/19/19 for $80

IIRC if you only have a three button controller you have to use the start button to swap between punching and kicking. Pretty sure this game was the original impetus for Sega to come out with the...

Re: Close Encounters of the Third Kind, 40th Anniversary 4K

Hmm, I just thought to look up that 4K set on eBay and the prices are kinda high, but the regular Blu is much cheaper and seems to have the book and poster. I may start watching for a used copy of...

Re: Close Encounters of the Third Kind, 40th Anniversary 4K

Hi all, looking to maybe upgrade from the DVD set to either Blu or 4k but I want to have the book and foldout poster that the DVD set has. Were those brought over to either Blu or 4k releases?

Re: How important to you is picture quality when watching a movie at home?

Just rewatched Monty Python and the Holy Grail for the gazillionth time and even with the Bluray, you can really tell the source film was not great. There were some pretty grainy images and wobbly...

Re: Clerks III (D: Kevin Smith)

I like it. There's always good stories to tell from the retail trenches, as long as you've got a scriptwriter who's been there themselves.

Re: HBO orders Watchmen series from Damon Lindelof

Yeah, no cliffhanger but there's more ideas that could be explored in future seasons if needed.

Re: The last Blu-ray you bought (Round 3)

Toy Story 4. Regular Bluray release, can't justify the cost just for fancy packaging and such anymore.

Re: Star Wars saga -- Disney BD re-release

Yeah, it's unlikely they would bother remastering the discs just to remove that fanfare. They're saving that for the 4K release.

And since Disney bought Fox, why wouldn't they leave the fanfare on...

Re: PlayStation 5 - late 2020

Yeah, same. We've always been a Nintendo/Sony family (and Sega when they did hardware), the Xbox was for stuff like Halo and Call of Duty. But when the PS4 didn't do 4k discs but the Xbox One S did,...

Re: How important to you is picture quality when watching a movie at home?

Somewhat important. I've got a lot of DVDs we still watch on our hidef display that are starting to show their age, but it depends on the disc. Some DVDs just look like slightly fuzzier than others...

Re: Untitled Goose Game (PC, Switch)

We downloaded it for the Switch and I've played a few minutes and it was pretty fun. It was more in depth than I expected, I was a bit pleased with myself when I realized how to use the radio to...

Re: Have you officially stopped buying compact discs?

Yeah, there’s albums from the past 10 years or so that I watch for in the used shops and never see. I’m going to have to break down and use eBay or something.

Re: New Star Wars Movie being developed by Kevin Feige

Do you mean the original run that started in the 70s? No, they were all about the main group of heroes but there were a lot of secondary characters also in there that could have their own stories...

Re: Clue - remake

We just rewatched the original not long ago, I don't think it can be fairly described as "so bad it's good", because I don't think it's bad. It may not be an Oscar-bait, star vehicle, but it's damn...

Re: New Star Wars Movie being developed by Kevin Feige

Ooh, there we go.

I'm not big into the MCU films, so I can't make a judgement on this guy, but if he understands how to create an overarching story then that's a good thing.

Re: Knowing music/musicians from before your time

I love all kinds of 60's/70's classic rock, much to the dismay of my wife. Our circle of friends have music tastes all over the place, but the most common ones among us that we all enjoy are the 90's...

The Oracle duology was also very good. Not sure how well they're remembered.

Re: Your Favorite recent or upcoming anime series?

I haven’t watched much but the wife and I love the heck out of Aggretsuko. If you work in an office, some of it hits pretty close to home.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (9/20/19: Switch)

I was in my early 20s when this first came out and I played it a good bit then, though I never finished it. Just knowing that so many others are playing and enjoying this 20 year old game gives me...

I was referring more to the style of the models in the game but I see what you mean.
I’ll watch for any issues like that.

Re: What's The Latest DVD You Bought (Part VII)

Singin’ in the Rain $1.50 at the thrift store. Looks like the first release, hope it’s not too wretched looking.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (9/20/19: Switch)

Wife downloaded it on Friday and she and my son have been playing. It looks amazing, like Rankin-Bass stop motion but we haven’t noticed any frame rate issues.
