Re: Sexual Harassment/Assault & Abuse in Hollywood -- Discussion

I guess I'm missing something. Doesn't the director of every stage and cinema production get to tell the actors how to dress?

As for letting the actor choose their own costumes, I remember that...

Re: Christina Perri - anyone still rememeber her?

IBTL, I want to call out this post as the most interesting thing in the thread.

Are there any pop singers who aren't cute? I thought that was the prime requisite to having a hit song.

No,...

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

More than Frybread. A comic mockumentary about a statewide competition for the best Indian frybread. Since I know nothing about Native culture, I probably missed half the jokes. It was still pretty...

Re: Iconic movie villain Henry Silva dead at 95

When I watched Johnny Cool, I thought, "Hey, I recognize that guy!" Silva was an actor who did good work but never got the limelight.

RIP.

Re: Jean-Luc Godard dead at 91.

I watched Alphaville and Breathless. I watched Breathless again a decade later with Mrs Danger. I never bothered with another of his movies.

In the mid-20th century there was a movement that...

Re: What's the last book you bought?

I bought The Galaxy Primes by EE Doc Smith at the science fiction convention for $2. I already own the book, but I loved the cover. It shows a space battle against flying space leopards.

Even the...

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Harold and Maude. Friends visited for movie day at our house. The person who chose it was the only one who had seen it before. Black humor mixed with hippie optimism, and we all loved it.

Re: Comic Conventions

We're going to be at MileHiCon (https://milehicon.org/), a science fiction convention, this October in Denver. Charles Vess is the guest artist.

If anyone else is planning to there, stop by the...

Re: Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey

Why is Pooh wearing overalls? Has growing up transformed into an American hillbilly? He was rather posh.

Piglet looks great. He grew up into a boar. But how did they take this:

Re: NBC is Considering Cutting an Hour of Primetime

Have you watched Jay Leno's recent videos? The man is old. He moves slowly when he gets into a car. I doubt that he could handle a five days a week television program anymore.

Re: NBC is Considering Cutting an Hour of Primetime

I think that Alan is mistaken when he thinks that television in the past was a golden age when content mattered more than advertising. I think it was in the book The Making of Star Trek that someone...

Re: Rated R Studio Movies Making a Comeback?

I don't think that movies are becoming simpler because America is becoming dumber. I think that studios want to make movies that play equally well in America, France, Egypt, Indonesia, and China. To...

Re: Best series finale?

I'm going to have to stick with The Young Ones.

The whole cast were riding in a car that went over a cliff and exploded.

Re: What Are You Reading? 2022

Started A Journal of the Plague Year by Daniel Defoe. When I read it in the 1970s it seemed bizarre.

It describes the Great Plague of London 1665. So far, I've come across an initial government...

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

King Lear, S: Ian McKellan. It was the first time I've watched Lear, and I couldn't understand it because McKellan mumbled every line.

Re: Most shocking nude scenes in cinema

Fair enough.

Wild Things has multiple twist endings in a row. One of them has Kevin Bacon step out of the shower, half-erect, and deep kiss another character that we didn't even know he liked. Up...

Re: Most shocking nude scenes in cinema

When I watched it, there was nothing but an excessively long censorship bar. Of course the fictitious director Borat would overdo it to make himself look bigger. I laughed.

Re: Most shocking nude scenes in cinema

All the drive in theaters I remember had the back of the screen to the highway so you couldn't see it from the road. You had to walk into the woods on the other side.

Re: Intimacy Coordinators on film sets? What are your thoughts?

I've never heard of intimacy coordinators, but they make a lot of sense to me. Sean Bean needs to be reminded that he isn't making love, he's performing for the camera.

An intimacy coordinator on...

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Tokyo Gore Police. I watched it because of the stills from the movie showed an interesting visual imagination. It delivers on the title, with giant fountains of blood. Body horror, social satire,...

Re: Who is the greatest sci-fi villain of all time?

I think there's a difference between a villain and a monster. Jaws is a monster. The Andromeda Strain bacteria is a monster. A kaiju is a monster, and it's really a personification of a force of...

Re: Who is the greatest sci-fi villain of all time?

My first thought was Charles Middleton as Ming the Merciless. This is a question where you probably shouldn't go with your second thought.

But I have some love Dr Rotwang from Metropolis.

Does...
