Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Good. I think the best result of these conversations is for people to experience more film.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

So one reason I don't get too amped over what is counted is because it is kind of hard to box in what truly qualifies something as a horror movie outside of referring to a tag on an external...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Exactly. None of the sites are perfect and they all have their own standards of deciding what the top genres/subgenres are. I just remember that Silence of the Lambs example being used as why we...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

So as I said, I'm not trying to get into the genre arguments and I remember seeing some over the years that I didn't care for. And arguments outside of the genre discussions. But I do remember IMDb...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I kind of always thought people accepted that one for the challenge. Not to rekindle some of the age old arguments on what counts as horror or not...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

That is a good question... I don't know their policy, but I can check capability on my phone and my tv today.

Edit: I was able to play a stream on my Roku, my kindle and my laptop. So they can...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Huh, that could be interesting. Cool for Shudder to be putting out new Briggs and Elvira. All that delightful horror host content...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Lisa sounds like it might go either way. I'll preview it at the beginning of the month to get an idea on how she would react. I always forget about the original The Stepfather because I disliked the...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

She liked 'Burbs (I love it). I've strongly considered Tucker and Dale because she also likes Cabin in the Woods so it occupies some of the same pallet. I'm gonna look into a few of these because...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Actually we did. I like it more than she did lol. She greatly prefers Silence so we are probably going to watch Clarice. Oh, she also enjoys some of the old Are You Afraid of the Dark.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I'm pretty sure I've asked in a previous year, but I'll see if there are any new recommendations. Every year, I try to line up 6-7 horror movies to watch with my wife. She tends to like some of the...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

This is pretty cool. I think I'll watch this in October. With a wildcard if it doesn't fit any other criteria.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I don't understand how watching the doc ahead of time would eliminate it spoiling movies for viewers. I feel like I a missing the point.

Does the doc really spoil important parts of those movies?...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I would have thought that would have been just in their list and not in their stats section which is what would be getting parsed. I'm clearly just missing a detail of what you're saying which is...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Well, the parser would just be taking the text between the stats tags. Wouldn't need to worry too much about images being caught up in it as they'd just get left out of the output by the parser. But...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I support such an idea. It might be easier if we added a header so you can just ctrl+f for "stats_list_header". Of course, that is just me. And if I had my way, we'd have a header and footer and be...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

That was the other one I considered. But I just enjoyed the magazine style enough to push that one over the top for me.

Went through the list thread tonight and have to put my vote towards surfinhank for his awesome style.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

My list is final. I'm a little disappointed that I missed so many personal goals, but October didn't go according to plan and I sacrificed some because the checklist brought so much fun to discover...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I've received the benefit of Chad's hard work in managing this thread many years at this point. For me, throwing in a buck or two even for every year I've joined in would be a bargain for what I've...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

My top surprises from first watches this time:
Shakma - I actually rather enjoyed this. I expected to hate it and be bored 5 minutes in. Maybe it was McDowell getting me through the beginning, but...
