Re: 'Leaning Tower of San Francisco' has new problem with cracked window

San Francisco has a self-caused housing crisis that has prevented a proper amount of development for decades, made millionaires richer and forced out anyone not a millionaire... the exact opposite of...

Re: 2018 Winter Olympics - PyeongChang, February 9-25

At this point, I don't understand why anyone would want to host the Olympics. PyeongChang seems to be a vanity exercise for the head of Samsung. Regardless, my point remains: the organizers seem...

Re: 2018 Winter Olympics - PyeongChang, February 9-25

Reactions to these Olympics so far as a know-nothing American fan:
1. It's a good thing tons of wacky versions of snowboarding exist.
2. American speedskating has completely come off the rails in...

Re: Would you pay a fee to watch YouTube?

https://youtu.be/RE7fXKKpTJs

An example of the stuff I like to watch on YouTube. This one was posted yesterday.
1. On a niche topic that I'm passionate about: mountain biking.
2. Surprisingly...

Re: Would you pay a fee to watch YouTube?

I have really weird tastes in video content, so YouTube is what I spend my time watching. For example:
1. Firearms stuff. Available nowhere else, basically.
2. European cycling racing (cyclocross...

Re: The Toys That Made Us -- Netflix docuseries -- 12/22/17

I've only watched the Star Wars and GI Joe episodes as that stuff is right in my wheelhouse. I thought they were both great documentaries: tightly written, well directed, funny and informative. These...

Re: Would you pay a fee to watch YouTube?

I get Red as part of Google Play Music (which is the best streaming service around, IMO). Would I pay for YT separately? Yes, but only if pay to creators went up. I'd say YouTube is 80% of my video...

Re: Obesity in US reaches all-time high; 40% of adults and 19% of kids...

I have a hard time being judgmental about this.

I'm 5'10", 160lbs, a fairly "normal" weight. I have a sedentary job.

I eat a balanced diet and rarely overeat but I have to do a lot to maintain...

Re: Family Attacked by Mob of Teens at Six Flags

This is my local Six Flags and the crowd there is definitely more sketchy than crowds at other similar parks. It's significantly more menacing than Six Flags New England or Six Flags Great Adventure...

Re: Game of Thrones (S7E06) -- "Beyond the Wall" -- 8/20/17 -- 75 min episode

I have despised the last two episodes of this show.

What the show used to be about:
1. People acting in understandable and reasonable ways that seem right at the time who still get in trouble...

Re: The Beatles: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 50th Anniversary Reissue 5/26

This thing sounds great to me. It's definitely a more "modern" mix, it sounds extremely punchy and detailed. In particular, the bottom end is extremely deep and clean. I think they did a good job.

Re: Why do pick-up truck drivers insist on backing into every parking space?

I've noticed the head-out parking thing. It seems like a bit of a "competent pick up truck man" thing, but it certainly doesn't bother me.

I will say that as an avid cyclist, I've noticed that the...

Re: Logan (Mangold, 2017) The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Watched this last night. I don't think I've ever seen such a relentlessly grim mainstream movie. Everything in this movie is horrible, broken and rotting. America is a jingoistic hellscape of awful...

Re: Looking for a budget friendly hybrid bike.

In general, to me the higher the pressure and the smaller the tire, the less tubeless makes sense. I use 25mm Schwalbe Pro Ones set up tubeless on Ultegra wheels as a training setup on my road bike....

Re: Looking for a budget friendly hybrid bike.

I used to use a tiny inflator and generic threaded 16g paintball CO2 cartridges to inflate tubes.

I actually have gone tubeless (shout out to all the bike nerds out there who grok tubeless) on...

Re: Looking for a budget friendly hybrid bike.

IMO a kick stand isn't necessary. Just lean your bike against something or put it on the ground (drivetrain up, please). The main problem with kickstands is that they're generally not very stable and...

Re: Looking for a budget friendly hybrid bike.

The first time you fall off your bike and cut up your hands, gloves will suddenly make a lot of sense to you. Also, on sweaty days gloves help you keep a good grip on the bars.

Probably not a bad...

Re: What to do and where to stay in Boston?

Tips about Boston:
1. Bring good walking shoes. The downtown is compact and easy to walk. IMO, it's most walkable major city in the US.
2. It's a very expensive city. Prepare for high prices.
3....

Re: Looking for a budget friendly hybrid bike.

30 year cyclist here. My opinions:

1. You already bought a bike, but in the future don't worry so much about brand. Most bike brands are owned by umbrella companies and ALL bikes (except for a...

Re: Anyone have experience with Dansko shoes/clogs?

My wife's a professional chef. These used to be the official footwear of chefs as they're comfortable to stand in all day, don't absorb stuff, are easy to clean and don't slip. Then about fifteen...
