I got the $15 win7hp to win8pro upgrade, so far my adaptation is going better than I thought.

The booting up of win8 is definitely faster than win7, both cold boot and resuming from hibernate.

I am not sure what you mean "load" software. If you mean "install" software, teamviewer (full version) does have an option that you don't install it, just run the executable, and there is a portable...

I don't recommend that you configure your router and expose your vnc/rdp port to the whole world, there are many hackers around, more than you think.

Use VPN, or services like teamviewer/logmein.
