Re: Criterion releases on Blu-Rays, Part II

Criterion is a niche and 4K is a niche. They're not the kind of niches that work together.

I could only see it working if they did one of those partnerships with a major studio on a major title...

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Hot damn! SMMaker is one of the greatest things Nintendo has ever made. The creativity I've seen in player created courses always amazes me to no end.

Re: George A. Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD -- 4K UHD (Theatrical, Cannes, Argento cuts) coming from Second S

I've barely watched my Ultimate DVD set as it is. I'm glad this is getting the upgrade it deserves, but the old set will hold me over for now.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (12/20/19, W/D: J.J. Abrams)

Supposedly someone on reddit is saying it's Balance of the Force. That's been kicking around since the prequel days, though.

Re: Batman Beyond Animated Movie (2022?)

Why are people pushing for live action so much? Didn't Into the Spider-verse prove that animation is better for these types of stories?

Re: Streaming television -- Why do you love it? And why do you hate it?

I'm hating this idea of each little company creating their own service. We have Hulu and Netflix, and sometimes Amazon when we have Prime active, and I'm not interested in very much more. We've...

Re: Movies that changed movies following it?

Yeah, a lot of good anime. But I still can't think of a lot of live action films that followed it.

Wow, did they use the same sets?

Re: Alita: Battle Angel (2019, EP: James Cameron, D: Robert Rodriguez)

Saw an ad on the TV where we we're eating last night and the eyes didn't look so bad. Have they reduced the size?

Re: Movies that changed movies following it?

Yeah, but that's the only one that comes immediately to mind. What would be some others?

"You people go out in public like this?"

I'm okay with this one, the garish colors don't always...

Re: Movies that changed movies following it?

I hope this isn't too far off track, but I was thinking about Blade Runner (the original) this weekend and it made me wonder, what are the films that it inspired in the mid 80's? I'm sure there was...

Re: is eating a chore?

I'm close to it for breakfast. If I eat too early after waking up, it can go right through me especially if it's something like eggs and such, so I've taken to keeping Clif bars in my desk at work...

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

Killer FIsh was a lot of fun, of all people, it was so bizarre watching Lee Majors out-acting every single person in the entire film.

Ator was a little soft, but still fun and I can't wait to see...

Re: The Gig Economy - do you side hustle?

I still have ethical issues with people buying new, high demand items like video game consoles solely for the purpose of flipping. Something about the invisible hand needing to be slapped, I guess.

Re: Ghostbusters 3 (2020 D: Jason Reitman)

I can't agree with this as the animated series showed a lot of potential for different kinds of stories.

I feel like a broken record, but it never needed to be a reboot. Have the remaining old...

Re: Ghostbusters 3 (2020 D: Jason Reitman)

It does sound odd, but remember the animated series did several good stories set outside the confines of NYC. Outside of the city you get a different flavor of ghost and have to think differently...

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (Howard, 2018) The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I remember all the Star Wars pages on social media posting a screengrab of that scene from TESB with that line after Solo was released and not explaining why. It was a lot of fun to see that kind of...

Re: Ghostbusters 3 (2020 D: Jason Reitman)

I'm definitely excited for this, the original hit when I was 10 years old and this and the animated series & toys played a big part of my childhood (I was pretty annoyed when the second movie ignored...

Re: Star Trek 4 -- news, rumors, etc.

I still find it a little odd that it doesn't play well overseas. I used to read the old fanzines and there were always letters from people around the world who grew up watching Trek. I...

Re: Old DVDs + New 4k TV Question

Not really. Llike you've noticed, some DVDs hold up and others don't. If you have space, you could have a smaller screen setup to watch the DVDs that don't look so good on the bigger screen. Also,...

Re: Star Trek 4 -- news, rumors, etc.

I really liked Beyond and if need be, I can accept it as a "soft" ending for this crew, especially with Yelchin's death. But on the other hand, Trek has a way of turning death into a fighting chance...

Re: Old DVDs + New 4k TV Question

It's a DVD, it maxes out at 480 lines of resolution, you're simply seeing the limits of how much detail they could squeeze onto the disc.

Remember when you first got into DVDs, then you went back...
