Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I was on track to beat my previous best, but as I knew, this week life would interfere and my pace has slowed. I will still make it to 100, and will be happy with that, for sure.

I'm also...

Re: "Carrie" Reviews/Discussion - 2021 Horror Challenge

There's always at least one "I can't believe this hasn't been a subset before" and this is definitely one for me. On the rewatch: Amy Irving's great performance, Carrie's look as her date gets...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

By the way, the link to the Women in Horror Exhibition at UT-Knoxville is wrong. The correct one is:
https://libguides.utk.edu/womeninhorror
Sounds like a terrific program; wish I was there!

Re: "Carrie" Reviews/Discussion - 2021 Horror Challenge

It was great to watch this again after many years. I agree with those who note that this was high school in the 70's. Sissy Spacek is great, but Piper Laurie is amazing. De Palma was lucky to get...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I've been listening to the Blank Check podcast right now as they are covering the films of John Carpenter. On the Halloween episode they spend a good amount of time on the history of modern horror...

AHA! I missed this the first time I looked as it's listed as Roadgames. Here's the link. (https://archive.org/details/roadgames-1981)

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

That makes three of us. I'm interested to hear what others think, but I was expecting a bit more given the huge amount of buzz.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Since I know we're fans of beer this time of year: Trace Brewing (https://www.tracebloomfield.com/menu) here in Pittsburgh just unveiled something new on draft in honor of our own George Romero,...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I watched it, interestingly enough, working my way through the They Shoot Zombies, Don't They? Top 1000 Horror Movies. (It's number #443.) I'm not sure I would have watched it otherwise and it's...

Indie/ Arthouse: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) (Does it fit the category? Perhaps I don't care.)

Comedy: Freaky

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I'm basically in this camp, as I recall the dark old days of questioning people's health and honesty in reporting big stats. I think originally we'd aim for 100 (or another goal) and celebrate...

Re: The One and Only Shout and Scream Factory Blu-ray Thread

Totally agreed. I've sat through Oleanna (play) twice and hated it both times. In general, Mamet seems to have axes to grind through most of his plays, but I don't find that nearly as much in his...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I saw this listed on the streaming services (all the HBOs), and thought the same. I'll give it a rewatch before the end of the Challenge.

Re: "Who's Watching Oliver?" Reviews/Discussion - 2020 Horror Challenge

Almost made me give up the goal of 100% subset. I've never watched the time counter so much, hoping it would soon be over. Cruel, icky, and downright offensive if you stop to think about it too...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Agreed. I am a big fan of Exorcist III, which is truly spooky and has great performances, particularly Brad Dourif. I usually just skip II and watch the original and then III.

Re: "Under the Skin" Reviews/Discussion - 2020 Horror Challenge

This is exactly how i feel about it (both movies, actually). Thanks for putting it into words.

I did enjoy this one a bit more watching it today, for the second time.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Today I watched 2010's Black Death, about which I knew very little, but thought might be timely. I liked it a lot. The cast includes Eddie Redmayne and Sean Bean (in a bit of Ned-Stark mode), and...

Re: "The Bird with the Crystal Plumage" Reviews/Discussion - 2020 Horror Challenge

Agreed. It was great to revisit this one. There's a nice style to it, and it moves quickly. I enjoyed it a lot and there's a sense that you have no idea how it's going to resolve in the end..
