Re: The Home Owner Thread

Oklahoma has its share of Federal disasters (mostly tornadoes) and most people I knew who were affected were offered only loans, not handouts. They are low-interest loans and you are likely to get...

Re: CSI: Vegas (CBS)

I liked the original and was looking forward to this, but I have about 3 or 4 episodes on my DVR and I just keep skipping over them due to lack of interest.

Re: Abbott Elementary (ABC) - Premiere on 12/7/21

Yeah, I liked the cast, but it seemed too familiar and the underlying premise with an underfunded public school is going to be hard to laugh at week after week.

Re: Annie Live on NBC - 12/2/2021

I had recorded it so I could watch it over a few nights. I'm not a musical fan and I thought it was good, although I could not have done it all in one sitting. I haven't seen any other version of...

Re: The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021, D: Joel Coen) S: Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand

Anyone else remember "Men of Respect" with John Turturro? I really enjoyed that on VHS after barely grasping MacBeth in High School.

Re: The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2021, D: Sharpe) S: Cumberbatch, Foy

Watched this Saturday and thought it was great. I never heard of Louis Wain before this, but Cumberbatch plays a quirky eccentric very well.

Re: Movies that feature actual comic books

Sorry, that wasn't intended as a put-down. I really enjoy all of your posts and can't believe how adept you are at finding them.

Now I'm worried I'm losing my marbles, because I have no...

Re: Movies that feature actual comic books

If you're that desperate, you might check out "The Devil All the Time" on Netflix. About 25 minutes in, the kid is reading a comic book with the pages folded back (gasp!). You can't see the cover,...

Re: Peter Scolari, ‘Newhart’ and ‘Bosom Buddies’ Actor, Dies at 66

Too bad. I didn't see much of his dramatic work, but he was always fun to watch. I liked him on the "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids" TV Series alongside the gorgeous Barbara Allyn Woods.

Re: The Home Owner Thread

That's a good idea, but I didn't order anything. I figured why pay a premium now and when the supply chain catches up, all these retailers will be overstocked and dumping their excess inventory at a...

Re: Oldest item you still use on a regular basis?

Yeah it's 4:3 ratio 36", so when you watch digital programs, the picture is roughly the same size a 34" 16:9 display. The best of both worlds I thought when I bought it. When it was new, they didn't...

You are right - I had not seen that before, so I guess that doesn't really indicate anything, other than the discs are newer.

Re: Oldest item you still use on a regular basis?

I still use my 36" Sony Wega. Got it in 2005, still works great, weighs over 250 lbs (as do I). I'm pretty much stuck with it for life, because I don't know how I would get it out of the house now...

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I saw some of these yesterday. The MGM logo is different, the "g" is in a lower-case script font and descends below the rest. The one I remember is "New York, New York" with Liza Minelli and Robert...

Re: Oldest item you still use on a regular basis?

Lots of kitchen stuff. Most used is a Ekco vegetable peeler that as far as anyone can remember is 60+ years old. It has been in continuous, almost daily use since it was new. I have bought dozens...

Re: The Home Owner Thread

Those look great! Furniture is one of those "Covid-interrupted supply chain" items. My sister just got a new couch that also took 6 months to arrive. I was trying to find a new recliner and the one...

Re: Electric bill - does this sound reasonable?

This is a long shot, but I have seen this on the news a couple of times so I know it's possible, especially in a multi-unit building. One or more of your neighbors may have some of their power wired...
