Re: The Batman (2022, D: Matt Reeves) S: Pattinson

Three hours? Fuck it, show Krypton exploding and Uncle Ben getting shot as well. Maybe even Abin Sur crashing while we're at it.

Re: Hawkeye (S1E06) - Finale - “So This Is Christmas” - 12/22/21

For me, yeah. The show simply didn't engage me. I mean, watching Ms. Steinfeld did, but since I'm literally twice her age I creeped myself out just typing those words :(

Re: The Book of Boba Fett (S1E03) - “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa” - 1/12/22

I like the show (so far) quite a bit, but it feels like it's holding back somehow. They do need to work on the fight choreography and could probably do with less closeups of a paunchy, slowly-moving...

Re: Dune (2021, D: Villeneuve) -- S: Chalamet, Ferguson, Isaac, Brolin -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread

Dune isn't a Marvel or Fast and Furious movie. This film demands attention; there are multiple story threads being woven at once. If someone claims there was "no story", they simply weren't engaging...

Re: Hawkeye (S1E06) - Finale - “So This Is Christmas” - 12/22/21

Well I finally got around to watching this and honestly, I wish I hadn't. Steinfeld is an stunning presence as always and Renner brought humor and fun to the show, but man this was a dud. Why call...

Re: Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021, D: Snyder) -- HBO Max Exclusive

I never liked Whedon or his cutesie-poo dialogue or any of his work in the past. Seems like my instincts were correct, at least for my tastes anyhow. What an unrelenting twatwaffle.

Re: Commercials you absolutely f&*$ing HATE

I don't know why but I love this one. It makes no sense and it's a horrible commercial in terms of conveying any kind of meaningful marketing, but I love the chemistry and performances of the three...

Re: Commercials you absolutely f&*$ing HATE

I can't explain exactly why but the "Mofongo-Vegtables-Pollo!" woman has got to be the most obnoxious and annoying person in all of current advertising.

Re: Real Steel series in development at Disney+

Happy for those who are into this, but seems like a waste of time to me.

Re: Underrated Westerns

I just watched this for the first time, on NETFLIX, a few nights ago.

Magnificent. 8 out of 10. Action packed and great performances. If the studio hadn't demanded 20 minutes of excised character...

Re: The Book of Boba Fett (S1E03) - “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa” - 1/12/22

Exactly. You can do something bright, colorful, retro, different, whatever. Unfortunately they just did it badly. The execution was deep cringe.

Re: The Book of Boba Fett (S1E03) - “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa” - 1/12/22

Who thought casting the Backdoor Pilot Gang from season 2 of Stranger Things was a good idea? Holy crap that was painfully bad and awkwardly out of place.

The rest of the episode was fine but Fett...

Re: Most Frustrating Shows

Disco has its problems, but episode count isn't one of them. It begins and ends with the writing.

And with TNG etc. there were entirely too many bad filler episodes to count (and I watched them...

Re: Most Frustrating Shows

Once the streaming/cable channels realized that 10-13 episodes was the perfect amount for a season, and that they didn't have to fill another 10-13 episodes with filler to reach that magical...

Re: Most Frustrating Shows

While it never got better than Season 2, I think it held up pretty well. Except for the roughly 8,000 episodes spent in Northern Ireland.

Re: The Power of the Dog (2021, Campion) S: Cumberbatch, Dunst, Plemons, Smit-McPhee - Netflix

Best film of the year for me. Easily. This is masterful filmmaking. The movie you think you're watching is NOT the movie you're watching, and as it ends -- seemingly abruptly -- you're left...

Re: Has the business of Hollywood made audiences jaded?

Take something like Mare of Easttown on HBO Max. Amazing miniseries. Kate Winslet was perfection. The acting, filmmaking, storytelling, nearly everything was pitch perfect. (Flaws, but they're mostly...

Re: The Wheel of Time (Amazon) -- premieres 11/19/21

I think that's it -- the world did not feel "lived in". Kind of like the Star Wars prequels, in a sense. Great looking sets, but they still felt like sets.

Also the revelation that the local...

Re: Ribs: Beef or Pork?

Definitely beef ribs but I ain't kickin' pork outta the hammock either.

But if I want beef ribs, I generally gotta make them myself. I live in a major metropolitan area and I can think of maybe...

Re: Your worst/most disappointing movies of 2021

All the hate for The Green Knight is bemusing; I thought it was the best movie of 2021. Certainly my favorite

Anyway I gotta give mine to Matrix: Resurrections; just a disappointing mess...
