Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

Just a few years ago I recall Best Buy Canada selling 20th Century Fox titles like Last of the Mohicans, Butch Cassidy, Fantastic Four, Day After Tomorrow etc. being 2 for $8. I think those days...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

I just received the Canadian Wal-Mart Black Friday flyer in the mail and noticed the only physical discs featured were the DVD versions of Black Widow, F9, Venom, Hobbs & Shaw etc. No ads for...

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Nice! Stanley & Iris is worth a few bucks as it's out-of-print. If Crisscross is the Goldie Hawn film, it's worth money too!

Re: Who's Harry Crumb DVD question

Columbia/Tri-Star was rather odd that way. They released a lot of films in 1998/1999 in the full screen/widescreen DVD-10 format (double-sided/single layer) only to reissue many of them in full...

Re: Who's Harry Crumb DVD question

The version I have is widescreen-only which I think was the only version available, first released in 2000.

Re: Weird Flipper Disc Situation

Usually the "Side A" label is printed on the "Side B" data side and vice versa but I have a few discs where they printed the label on wrong sides.

Re: End of Era For Blu-ray & Cases?

It's those higher-quality replacement Blu-ray cases that are going to be difficult to find soon.

End of Era For Blu-ray & Cases?

I have heard from a few wholesalers of Blu-ray and DVD cases that they may not bring in any more of the typical plastic Blu-ray and DVD cases due to the dramatic increase in costs of sending a...

Re: When compared to the original movie, how different should a remake actually be?

With remakes I tend to like the version I watch first ... for better or worse. I also prefer when they remake mediocre films that had some potential as there's no risk of degrading the original film.

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

It's always in a company's financial best interest to convert their clients to buy the convenient, non-physical version of every product they can.

Re: What is a DVD slipcover ?

Don't quote me verbatim but having dealt with the Technicolor plant (formerly Cinram) in the past they refer to it as a "trap sheet cover" being either "4/4" (full colour/double-sided print) or "4/0"...

Re: Theatrical Cuts that Should Be on Blu ray and 4K

It seemed odd to omit the theatrical version on the Blu-ray when some simple seamless branching in the authoring would have allowed for both versions. Hopefully they'll give 4K buyers extra incentive...

Re: Do you own any 16mm or 35mm film prints?

I still have a few 35mm trailers such as "Batman" (1989), Dazed and Confused, True Romance, Goodfellas, Fast Times at Ridgemont High etc which just sit on a shelf as a collectible.

I bought a 35mm...

Re: What's Your Stash Worth? Or Do I Really Need My Physical Media?

... yes, and a digital camera!

Luckily I haven't had to deal with too many challenging customers. I take pictures of the front and back with a description that usually states something like "the...

Re: What's Your Stash Worth? Or Do I Really Need My Physical Media?

My tools of the trade over the last 10 years selling DVDs on eBay have been:

-computer w/ internet connection
-ballpoint pen
-#0 size bubble mailers w/ adhesive strip
-access to local Post...

Re: What's Your Stash Worth? Or Do I Really Need My Physical Media?

eBay also favors the Buyer in most cases. I have had good dealings on eBay but had to refund a small percentage of "lost in the mail" claims or several cases where the client had a crack in the hub...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

For most people owning media was a phase that lasted from about 2001-2009. Before that most movies were rented on VHS or watched on Pay-TV. Television shows were a one-shot opportunity and then...

Re: What's Your Stash Worth? Or Do I Really Need My Physical Media?

My quick and easy method of looking up what is worth money is just typing in "rare DVD (or Blu-ray)" or "OOP DVD ( or Blu-ray)" and then "Sold Items". This populates every listing that has actually...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

I think 95% of the population just wants what is either cheap or convenient and preferably a combination of both.

Inevitably, physical media will get more expensive because the demand is lower. ...

Re: Family films that might mess up kids

I do remember those kids books with the 45rpm record that read the story to you with dialogue and sound effect excerpts from the movie. "You know it's time to turn the page when you hear the sound of...

Re: Family films that might mess up kids

There's such a huge gap between "old" PG and "new" PG. Just about every animated feature after about 2001 (think Shrek) was rated PG with a few exceptions. I think audiences (ie parents) have become...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

When it comes to new releases, the enthusiast market has moved to 4K (which usually include a Blu-ray) and the budget-minded/bargain-bin market has stuck with DVD leaving Blu-ray in no-man's-land. ...

Re: Family films that might mess up kids

I saw The Black Hole (1979) when I six years old and it bothered me for what felt like several months after. I loved the movie but it caused me a lot of panic at bedtime.

It was a Disney movie...
