Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

I'm 72 and there has been only one president in my lifetime younger than I am and it didn't happen until a few days before I turned 62.

Re: Is a movie earning one billion dollars at the box office still considered a major achievement?

I understand that comparing grosses for movies over decades is darn near impossible. Inflation, of course, is obvious. Even comparing numbers of tickets sold is problematic.

Take the 1930s vs the...

Re: Is a movie earning one billion dollars at the box office still considered a major achievement?

But, adjusted for inflation, the Bond films have grossed almost $6 billion (more than $4 billion under Cubby) and that's just domestically.

Re: Is a movie earning one billion dollars at the box office still considered a major achievement?

Not so sure. Albert "Cubby" Broccoli was a producer on almost all the James Bond films until his death in 1996.

Re: The Random Political Memes Thread

One of the best memes I've seen here. Of course that's not necessarily saying a whole lot.

But I have to take issue with the billing.

Without a doubt AOC should have top billing. She's clearly...

Re: The One and Only Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Obsession Thread

As a libertarian, I know that.

I don't have any figures. However, knowing libertarians personally and seeing more famous ones on TV and reading their writings (examples - John Stossel, Kennedy,...

Re: Supreme Court -- 2011 and beyond discussion

I'm sure that can happen. And there can always be multiple factors in influencing voter turnout for one or both major parties in any election. But there is almost always more than one race involved....

Re: Supreme Court -- 2011 and beyond discussion

Of course, you're right about conceding districts to win more.

But there were 91 Democratic candidates and 69 Republicans overall. Whatever the cause and/or effect (and I did say, for "whatever...

Re: Supreme Court -- 2011 and beyond discussion

I have never said Wisconsin isn't gerrymandered. I have admitted it is throughout the past decade.

But using the "statewide popular vote" as the proof is, as I said, highly misleading.

Re: Supreme Court -- 2011 and beyond discussion

Perhaps not so egregious.

Republicans won 5 districts to the Democrats' 3 and "lost" the popular vote 53% to 45%.

But -

The Democrat ran unopposed in District 2 (my district). My district...

I'm hardly a polling expert so I'll accept (with with a grain or two of salt) the articles above. Presumably those articles were straightforward with no element of excuse making.

I'll just...

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

Well, the more flips, the closer to 50/50 it tends to be. If you flip 10,000 times it is very, very unlikely to finish 5,000 to 5,000. But it is very likely to finish closer to 50/50 than 10, 100 or...

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

I don't think there is a system wide issue with polling. I think most of the time it's pretty damn good.

I also don't think I'm picking random states - it happened throughout the rustbelt, states...
