Is there a firmware update for it that you haven't applied yet?

Re: DVD player jam

You may find a vcr very cheap at Goodwill. A pawn shop may have one too. Good luck.

Re: Looking for the *Ultimate*, do-everything DVD Player - Suggestions?...

Ok, after being into HT for almost twenty years, I've learned something new. I knew about Oppo players, but didn't know about the upscaling. They were for sacd and dvd-a playback. I just got my first...

Re: Looking for the *Ultimate*, do-everything DVD Player - Suggestions?...

Re: Looking for the *Ultimate*, do-everything DVD Player - Suggestions?...

It was my understanding that it's the tv doing the upscaling, and not a dvd player, though blu ray players do upscale?

Re: What TV outputs do I need for Surround Sound?

BTW..........FYI, Component cables are red, blue, and green, and for video. The red & white cables are audio cables, and the yellow is Composite for video.

Yes, if you're using an older receiver...

Re: Looking for the *Ultimate*, do-everything DVD Player - Suggestions?...

1080p upscaling isn't possible with dvd players. 1080p is high def, and dvd format isn't high def. That was the whole purpose of blu ray. As mentioned, Oppo is the best bet. It's capable of a mod to...

Re: What TV outputs do I need for Surround Sound?

To get surround sound from tv programming, you'll need to use the cable/sat box outputs, instead of tv. TVs usually downmix the 5.1 signal to stereo, which means the best you'll get is simulated...

Re: Can I please get some advice on a HT system from BB?

I agree with what's been said, except for the speaker wire. I'd use 14 gauge wire instead of 16. The heavier wire is a little more efficient, so I think 14 is a better choice. Of course, 12 gauge...

Re: Is it rude to adjust people's TVs when they have them set wrong?

Adjusted wrong according to who? You? Why is your opinion on adjustments better than their's? Maybe it's adjusted perfectly for their eyesight. Everyone sees things differently. You're only visiting....

Re: Surround Sound Help Needed

They are not "pre-outs". They are 5.1 multi-channel analog outputs, which is the only way, other than HDMI, to get the HD audio formats. They are there for use with older receivers without HDMI...

Re: Low Voice Channel

Your stereo isn't a stereo receiver? What is it? What movie is it that has only Dolby TrueHD? I've not heard of that before. But, since I listen to dtsHD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD, I've not been...

With 1,672 posts, you should know that it might help if you list the brand and model of your BD player.
In the Downsampling setting you mentioned, is it set to "ON"? Since you just have a stereo...

Re: Insignia NS-BRDVD4 is Having Issues Playing Recent Anchor Bay Blu-rays

Does the notes on the firmware update tell you this? I ask because if the player came from the factory as a region-free player, a firmware update shouldn't affect that.

It sounds like you got a...

Re: Insignia NS-BRDVD4 is Having Issues Playing Recent Anchor Bay Blu-rays

Usually, when a player won't play newer movies, it needs a firmware update.

Re: Home Theater Setup: HDTV, PS3, Receiver

Run HDMI to receiver, then out from receiver to tv. Especially if you want surround sound from dvds and blu ray movies. 99.9% of tvs will downmix the 5.1 signal to 2.0 to send to receiver. Then the...

Re: Needing help with AV/HDMI cable

It doesn't have component outputs (red, blue, and green RCA plugs)?
If it does, I'd use those, since satellite doesn't broadcast in 1080p anyway.

Re: Question to all you home theater guru's about hdmi and 3d

No, it is not. If it were, it would be a feature listed on this page: http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=TX-SR705&class=Receiver&p=i
See this page for receivers that support 3D:...

Re: The ongoing "TV size wars"

I sit 10-11 ft. away from my 61" DLP. I would like a 70"-80" screen, but didn't have enough room for it. I agree with Spiky, that your brightness setting may be wrong. Straight out of the box, I...

Re: Recommend a TV Soundbar?

I agree. I've never understood why anyone would rather listen to tv speakers, or soundbar, instead of a 5.1/7.1 sound system, under ANY circunstances. Most systems have a "Midnight Mode" or something...

Re: Haggling with B.B on TV's and extras?

I've not see a Best Buy or any other store for that matter, that will price match Amazon.com. I've asked several places, and they won't do it. I don't believe there's much haggling to do with the 3-D...

Re: Considering New Samsung HDTV

LEDs tend to have glossy screens, so if you have a big bay window opposite the tv's location, you'll have a bad problem with reflection in the tv screen, in the day time. At night, just the lamps and...
