I imagine that if you held off the last 4k release, you were expecting to not have to keep the older editions just to have the extras. There's really no reason to buy this release unless you need to...

Which announcement is that? The original one that said it was going to be released in the summer does not say that. It says a Blu-ray remastered set of the original trilogy will also be released.

I don't know why but I was assuming this was going to be a dual format release. 31 discs makes complete sense if its UHD only and would indicate that the LOTR supplements will be on 3 dvds. But...

They said this summer so it should be announced soon but we will see. I could see it being delayed til the holidays. I'm just hoping it has all the previous extras so I can get rid of those sets.

I want the steelbook versions but I will probably wait until they announce the new extras on the big set. If there's nothing substantial, I can live with the movie only editions and keep the old sets...
