Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Thanks for those links, Jay. Time to go down this rabbit hole.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Is there a site that takes about the history of the cartridge hardware? That sounds interesting to read about.

Finally, someone else is talking about the actual games on this thing.

I’m loving getting back into Excitebike.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Got a Classic (online) and an extra controller (in person). No headaches. Hope others go through it the same way.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Yeah I was thinking that might have been a reason, more of SNES’s games are simultaneous.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

They really should have added another controller, like with the SNES. I’m assuming the cord length is the same as before.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Let's hope we get longer cords and a second controller packed in.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

As an aside, I bought a new NES Advantage at Toys R Us in like 2000. It was random as hell to see it on a shelf during the N64 era (and cheap too), but why not.

Well, to the guy who thought this would be a bargain bin item this summer...told you so.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Nintendo has always been pretty deliberate with their pricing. They've been even more stingy with Player's Choice titles this generation (then again, they shafted the WiiU in the first place), and...

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Let me guess - these stores have plenty of carrying cases and extra controllers for sale though, right?

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

The controller is also an accessory to the Wii U. That explains the controller cord length, even if it is for a "secondary" purpose.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

I like how this is like two weeks away and there's still no option to order online. Maybe Nintendo actually thinks it's 1985.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Yeah in that case, it won't help. For some reason I was forgetting about the power cable.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Why's that? Though I just realized I'm overlooking the power cable, which might also limit the reach of it.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

Simple solution is an HDMI extension cable. Bring the entire unit closer to you, 3/6/10 feet for under 11 dollars. It might end up looking clunky, but as a bonus, that fits in with the retro vibe....

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

They don't scale up with HDMI- they were made to be displayed on CRTs, and look vastly better on them. But it's not like we really have a choice.

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

They did have an issue which led to the Wii U not being sold on Amazon.

But that's a random aside. Just seems like it's a basic announcement, with pre-orders to follow. Speaking of which, was...

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

That's a good idea - but I'll have to locate the other cables. Hopefully they're all here.

Edit: just found them.

Switching isn't that bad now that I have the positions memorized for the...

Re: NES Classic Edition (30 games; 60 bucks; 11/11/2016)

I only have one port- gotta switch out and fumble among four devices. Not that bad once I got used to it.
