Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

Amazon.ca is not any better with the exception of their initial pre-order phase for Criterion. Canadian don't have much choice.

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

That's what sad about HMV closing since it was the only other option here in Canada to get Criterion besides Amazon.

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

The younger kids have no qualms watching movies or tv episodes on their phones, no matter the size. I see it everyday.

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

I'm okay with streaming specially with TV shows. I live in a condo and I don't have the space for a large collection. In regards to movies, I have been purchasing a few of the old Shaw Brothers...

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

I know the other board goes overboard for the above and for most cases, I don't really care for them. However, I just recently bought the Studio Ghibli release "The Cat Returns" with the slipcover on...

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

I think you are referring to Xage and his collection of everything Evil Dead "collection" including countless versions of the same 3 movies.

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

I rented it last night and I'm glad that I didn't blind bought it. There's no way I'm going to rewatch it again. Probably people are thinking along the same line.

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

Here in Canada, Best Buy and Future Shop has been going into appliances and furniture. Heck, I saw them advertising jewelry recently in their flyers.

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

They keep licensing movies and TV shows because it's better than just storing them and collecting dust. Heck, if the demand is there, they could ask Netflix for more money.

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

I'm not predicting the death of physical media, I'm predicting that physical media will be more limited in number (think TT) and unless it's a blockbuster, releases limited to only digital format....

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

Don't be so sure about physical media survival. My prediction is that DVD and Blu-ray will survive as niche markets (as I stated before). That means far fewer releases to the general market and most...

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

This. Sometimes people in this forum (but more so in the other one) forget that we are the exception and not the norm when it comes to how we watch a movie or show. I'm not saying one is better than...

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

Nicely put! The whole craze of buying physical media like in the late 90's and early 2000's is over. Even with the better A/V superiority that Blu-ray offers, "regular" people are more than happy to...

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

I think I'm resigned to the fact that the North American market will become similar to the one in Japan for physical copies. Limited amount of copies and higher prices. Twilight times indeed!

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

I have been streaming a lot more recently and I have become more "accepting" of how a movie or TV show looks while being streamed or on DVD but Audio wise, there's no comparison. Lossless audio is...

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

I'm thinking that Blu-ray will become more of a niche market with not all releases coming out with a Blu-ray version just like it's happening with the TV season sets. Sales figures are proving that...
