I don't know if it is the same exact bug so it may not fix the problem, but always use up on the D-Pad to access your bullpen anyway just to be safe. Last year you could get the dreaded bullpen...

I played a good 100 games before I got good at hitting last year. It takes a while to get your timing locked in, but once you do the game is just so much fun.

It took me a long time to get hitting down also. I played probaby 75 games or so before I could start getting consistent hits and scoring runs efficiently.
