Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

Yeah, the old Town and Country Century was nothing special but what replaced them is shit. I hate Satan's Row; so many wannabe rich posers just milling around. I miss the old Town and Countries in...

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

The owners should refurbish the remaining dome and incorporated it with the theatres at Santa Row. Use it regularly and for big movie premieres. I guarantee there will be more advanced ticket sales...

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

Yeah, you can go all over Santa Clara on the bus with a 20c day pass. As for the Sunnyvale Town Center; it's trying to look like Santana Row. I didn't even recognize it when I drove by it a few weeks...

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

Damn...you have a good memory. Thanks for listing those. I totally forgot most of those theaters; especially the Town and Country theatre which was right across the street from the domes.

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

I suppose. Back in the late 70's and early 80's there were only a few theatres in the area. There was the Centurys, Cinema 150 and the two AMCs in Sunnyvale (Town Center) and Mountain View (Old...

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

Yeah there was; can't tell it was even there because there's a new building right over the same spot. I had free tickets to a sneak peak of Karate Kid there in '84.

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

It was the best theatre to watch Star Wars in '77. In '97 when the SE was released the dome was packed. Awesome seeing it again on the big screen even with the revised effects.

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

What they should do with the San Jose Century is make it a memorial for Vincent Raney. He is the architect of the domes and was a Bay Area local. When I drive by it I like the way it stands out from...

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

Yeah, sure people should say what's on their mind but since he is in office it comes off sounding like he has an agenda. Obviously, the people spoke and he should abide by that and keep his negative...

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

From the article:

"I don't see the building as very old and I don't see it as very historic," said Mayor Chuck Reed.

What an ass. Glad he will be out of office soon.

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

Damn! I was there that day, too! I was also there at the first showing of RoTJ.

On a side note I remember El Camino Real also had a bunch of really good comic stores from San Tomas all the way to...

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

The only other theatre I liked going to besides Century was Cinema 150 on El Camino in Sunnyvale. That one was just as huge and I remember seeing Close Encounters and RoTJ there. I believe they...

Re: San Jose Century Theaters closing March 30th

Same here...also saw Excalibur, Escape From New York and tons of other big summer movies there. The last time I actually saw a movie there was the SW SE release in '97.
