re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I really lucked out with the Bruce Lee set. Called the closest B&N the day it came out. Was told all their copies had already been pre-ordered. Several hours later, I went to get a few other titles...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Same problem for me. :(

But if I can get one, it'll be my 4th director signed Criterion.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Oh yeah. And now that I'm actually looking at their site, he also did that World Cinema Project.

But it's still kinda weird that such a prestigious director (especially with five decades of film...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

VERY excited about the Zeman set. I just found out about that version of Munchausen a few weeks ago.

A Netflix/Criterion partnership sounds like a great arrangement, but I think it'd be a...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Whoops. I was cut and pasting the features, but manually typing the titles. Also, Rublev has been my most wanted rerelease, so not really paying attention to the details.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I've never cared much for national team sports, but I fucking love the Olympics. I'm getting that set.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Barry Lyndon is LITERALLY my most wanted Criterion title. Maybe next we'll get Lolita, the other Warner/Kubrick title that never had a SE.

Count me as another one who's puzzled at Fire. Are there...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

We wouldn't get releases like The Emigrants/The New Land at all if not for the cash cow titles like The Graduate. Here's an idea: Just don't buy it!

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

When I saw Inside Llewyn Davis, I was most reminded of Synecdoche, New York. Not for story or character, but for being a film that make absolutely no effort to "please" anyone or anything. Davis is...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Do you understand Criterion would probably go out of business if they ONLY released decades old foreign films?

For every copy of L'aaventura sold they will probably sell 15 or 20 copies of...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Then what criteria do you use to define a classic? Age?

E.T. and Blade Runner both came the same year as Tootsie. Most moviegoers would consider those two classics.

I don't like 8 1/2. But I...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Very excited about Shoah (if you can use that word about that film). I'm sure the restoration for a nine hour film was expensive and time consuming. $99 for 4 BD discs isn't so bad. Or get it for $50...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

The '84 film was recently taken off Netflix streaming. Maybe they're planning a dual release with the '56 version.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Too bad about Rublev. Apart from just being a great film, the CC DVD is non-anamorphic 2.35:1.

I assume "Soah" is meant to be Shoah.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Good thing you're here to tell everyone else what their own opinion is on something subjective.

I think the "stories" being referred to are about Cimino's wastefulness on the set. People paid...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

For anyone who's interested, all three of Pasolini's Life films are available on Netflix streaming.
