Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

I love this challenge and it's always fun to read folks opinions of the films they're watching. Thanks to The Monkees for keeping us all in line.

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

Woohoo I made it to 100 with a few days to spare. Beginners was touching and Christopher Plummer was awesome as usual. As for Bridesmaids Melissa McCarthy was hilarious but the movie itself didn't...

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

Watched Blazing Saddles for the millionth time. This really is one of the funniest movies ever made. Cleavon Little was great as Bart but imagine how much more awesome the film would have been if...

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

I watched Deliverance for the first time. Note for other folks who haven't seen it before: it's probably not a good movie for first thing in the morning.

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

Now that I've actually seen The Dirty Dozen the scene in Sleepless in Seattle where they talk about it is even funnier than before!

Checked out A Better Life last night and loved it. I don't...

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

She received the Humanitarian Award which is less about enhancing cinema and more about helping humanity. She's not the best actress by any stretch but she's coughed up a ton of cash and time for...

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

Finished Swing Time this morning and it's my first Fred Astaire / Ginger Rogers film. I never knew the song "The Way You Look Tonight" came from that film. Could have done without the black face...

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

I always interpreted it as a film that won any award during the decade in question but if it's supposed to be limited to films that won Best Picture please let me know (that will change my list quite...

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

Well I only teach two days a week which leaves plenty of free time (I did all my class prep over the winter break before the semester began). Plus when I created my syllabi, I knew this challenge...

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

Started off wanting to do documentary day. Freeheld was sad and touching at the same time. I'm glad the city council extended pension benefits to Lt. Hester's partner. Man on Wire was absolutely...

Re: The 6th Annual Academy Award Challenge (1/26 - 2/26)

So far so good in terms of the films. King Solomon's Mines and Joan of Arc were a bit dry but the first one was very pretty to look at. The Goodbye Girl and My Favorite Year were a lot of fun and...
