Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I saw a comment on twitter that said it was like The Force Awakens and if you liked TFA you'll like this but if you didn't like TFA then you won't like this.

I still love TFA and don't care that...

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I'm starting to get concerned this will be a Ready Player One situation, where the callbacks are basically the story.

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

My love of the franchise was absolutely secured and deepened by the cartoon. It was able to explore so many different ideas and the other films seemed to pale in comparison.

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

Yeah, it's hard to criticize ATC because you can get lumped in with the manbabies crying about girls being the stars when you simply have issues with the structure and the writing, not to mention it...

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

Kate's character was the best thing about ATC, she stole the show. Yes, she was a bit "out there", but a male character of the same behavior wouldn't even register to most viewers.
I've never felt...

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I’m consistently surprised at this counter argument. There’s lots of fans who were kids like me (10 years old in 1984) who weren’t overtly aware that this was a Murray/Ackroyd/Reitman picture. I may...

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

RPO's easter eggs (and more recently the new Space Jam's) never felt organic, more like checking off a list.

What works better for me is the stuff that Star Trek: Lower Decks does - there's tons...

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

Yeah, I don't like this trend of bashing fans for wanting new entries in a franchise to have at least a passing similarity to the past. It's one thing to evolve a story/world/character, but wholesale...

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

OMG, that was awesome. I knew they'd keep the comedy.

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

Yeah, we may be underestimating how toxic the filmmakers consider ATC. I maintain that it was probably 1-3 script re-writes away from being pretty fun, but I know there's people that rank it down...

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I have a poor concept of the passage of time, I wasn't sure how old the kids were when he started his sabbatical.

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

Yeah, from what I've seen, Moranis appears to be easing back into some stuff, I'm guessing his kids are all old enough now that they'll be okay with a nanny for very short times now. Hell, they could...

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

Thats a good point. And there’s several of us that have already commented that we never saw the original as an outright comedy. It was an adventure/horror that happened to have some very funny lines...

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I always considered it an adventure story with comedic and spooky themes.

re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I was totally a sci-fi kid. My heroes growing up were Mr. Spock and Luke Skywalker. So, yeah, I definitely approached the original movie from a viewpoint of "these guys are using science to...

re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I was ten when it came out and I’ve never been big into horror but I’ve loved Ghostbusters since day one. I even made up my own costume for Halloween one year. And don’t get me started on The Real...

re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I've said this before, but every time this comes up I have to say that I've never seen this film as a "comedy". It's always been a scifi adventure that leaned into the funny side of things. It's...

re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I like it. Instead of trying to carry the weight of building a new story in the mythology, it just takes the mythology for granted and tells a new kind of story.

re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I still remember being pissed off as kid when Ghostbusters 2 came out and completely ignored the cartoon where they were still active and going after ghosts, even getting Janine and Lous into the...

re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I always enjoyed the animated series more than even the first movie. And to me Ghostbusters was never a "comedy", it was a scifi flick with some (very) funny characters. It wasn't something like...

re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I can't agree with this as the animated series showed a lot of potential for different kinds of stories.

I feel like a broken record, but it never needed to be a reboot. Have the remaining old...

re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

It does sound odd, but remember the animated series did several good stories set outside the confines of NYC. Outside of the city you get a different flavor of ghost and have to think differently...

re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I'm definitely excited for this, the original hit when I was 10 years old and this and the animated series & toys played a big part of my childhood (I was pretty annoyed when the second movie ignored...

re: Ghostbusters III (2015) S: Jonah Hill

Growing up on this series, I would be totally in favor of this idea. The animated format gave them so much more room to show weird stuff.
