re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I haven't checked out my copy for a while, but I remember someone on here was very disappointed with the image quality of the current disc. It might be more of an upgrade than we realize.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

If you had the US disc, it had some DNR applied to it (like some other New Line titles at the time). I got the UK version, which didn't have that.

However, that version lacked the lossless audio...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I would hope for this one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0270288/?ref_=nv_sr_1 :)

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

If that's really Inside Llewyn Davis, it seems like a waste. It doesn't need a new transfer, and the Coens typically aren't that enthusiastic about extras. I could understand if it was 10 or more...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Well, the cover should give you a hint - if you can recognize Dustin Hoffman.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

For someone without a feedback rating, would "Fulfilled by Amazon" be better?

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

It is certainly more film-like, but that's not a comment at all on the color timing and brightness. The Koch one looks close to an upscaled DVD, from those screenshots.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I don't know about Amazon discounts, but not finding them at BB and Fry's may have a lot more to do with a decline in physical media sales than the dual-format situation. I guess you'll find out if...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I wasn't considering the studio. I just thought it was a revered catalog title that the studio would want to keep for itself. I don't know how it sells, but I'd think it does relatively well for...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I thought about It's a Wonderful Life, but I just don't see Paramount licensing that.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I think they'd at least have their foot in the door though. They won't get something like Lawrence of Arabia, but we could see a few new release titles from Sony Pictures Classics.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Any chance it could be The Fisher King? You know how some birds will dive in and catch fish.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

The Decalogue? It revolved around an apartment complex, and there seem to be about 10 other clues. I'm not sure exactly how many.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I just don't see why that documentary would be Criterion-worthy. I haven't seen it, but from what I've read it goes into those crazy theories about how the film is "really" about the genocide of...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

That's the thing. Warner doesn't license their titles out; heck, they're even taking on some of Paramount's titles now. And the Kubrick films in particular seem to have become cash cows for them. ...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Spartacus? They seem to have a good relationship with Universal, and the film could use a new transfer.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I have to admit, the thought crossed my mind that GB could possibly be one of the titles Warner will distribute.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I don't think we can say without knowing which titles they are. All I've been able to find so far are a handful of them: Braveheart, Gladiator, Ghost, Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Chinatown,...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

MGM would have to give it up, and that's not likely since they have a remake in the works as an opportunity to release it again.
