Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

It's so disheartening that it's been twelve years since Marvel acquired Miracleman (and six years since they reprinted through "The Golden Age"/#22) and we still haven't gotten any new Miracleman...

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

Are you breaking this here? I've searched both of the keywords on twitter and google and nothing comes up. (Not even this thread!)

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

I don't give a fuck about Miracleman outside of Neil Gaiman finishing up "The Silver Age" and "The Dark Age."

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

Since it's been about a year since Miracleman ceased publication, I was doing a web search on Miracleman tonight to see if there was any news and found this...

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

Well, Neil Gaiman's only had about twenty-five years to write the next chapter. (Yes, I'm looking at you, Sandman Overture). Marvel announced the reprints would begin two years ago; I would hope that...

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

https://slovobooks.wordpress.com/2014/01/09/last-alan-moore-interview/

It's long, but well worth a read. moore compares Morrison to "herpes" and a "medicinal leech."

It's also blazingly obvious...

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

He also tended to gush over Steve (no relation) Moore, and I believe he's still on good terms with Eddie Campbell.

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

Oh, god, it's going to be Mark Millar, isn't it?

Or even worse, Warren Ellis.

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

I remember hearing, and I have no idea how much veracity this has, but..."The Dark Age" was going to provide a definitive end to the series and it wouldn't continue.

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

I think the polybags are there because of the explicit content. Especially the one with the graphic childbirth scene. Even before the Disney buyout, Marvel was weird about mature readers books, and...

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

I might start buying "The Silver Age" with #3 since I own all of the Eclipse issues.

But, yeah, Marvel kind of screwed the pooch with this one.

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

From Hell is a really dense work. It's probably not something I would recommend to a lot of people, and it should not be the first Alan Moore book someone reads.

Watchmen
V for Vendetta
Swamp thing
From Hell
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vol. 1 and 2

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

Well, shit. That's going to fuck up my numbering. I already own the original Eclipse Miracleman #1-24 comic books, and I was going to start buying the Marvel editions with #25. Figured something was...

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

Looks that way. #15 is solicited for February. Coming out at one per month, that would put #24 at November 2015. If they take December off again (there's a special annual solicited for this December...

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

Yeah, I think there was one short story drawn by Steve Dillon that wasn't reprinted by Eclipse, but I don't think there's a lot of material like that out there. The Dillon story is about eight pages,...

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

The plan is to reprint the existing Moore and Gaiman material in #1-24, the completed but unpublished #25, and then Gaiman and Buckingham will finish out their planned storyline with new material....

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

I always figured that McFarlane tried to buy Miracleman to spite Gaiman.

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

Yeah, everything Marvel is reprinting is all old stuff from the 50s and 60s.

Still haven't announced anything on the Moore/Gaiman issues, or new Gaiman/Buckingham material.

Re: Marvel Comics buys the rights to Miracleman/Marvelman

Gaiman set up the "Marvels and Miracles" thing in order to sort out the rights to the character, so I don't think that either he or Buckingham are going to present much of a problem for getting their...
