But that's not at all what the comic is about. Amiibos are actually hard to find, depending on the one you want, and for items like that, a reservation system makes sense.

If it was a big game, we might gut anywhere from three to five to use as displays. If it was a small game, then just one. If we only got one copy, that copy was gutted unless someone wanted to buy...

EB Games used to have a game checkout policy for employees, but IIRC, that was relegated to used games only when Gamestop took over.

I don't know what the issue is with long-held pre-orders. When I worked at Gamestop we had pre-orders in the system for Madden 98 because someone never bothered to actually pick it up.
