Finally. I love this film, and hopefully it should look great after a substandard Blu-ray.

Re: UHD release announcements

Haha. 4/18 is also supposedly the release date of the 5-film Superman collection in the U.S., as well as individual releases for each of the 5 films (not officially announced yet).

Re: UHD release announcements

Is this the first Disney or Pixar animated movie to be released in the Criterion Collection?

Re: UHD release announcements

It looks like they ran out of stock a couple months ago. I don't think it's going OOP though. They probably just need to do another pressing, but maybe there are delays because of supply chain...

Re: UHD release announcements

The studio closed down a month after the movie came out (and bombed). Even if all the assets are stored somewhere, it was all rendered on old SGI hardware. I'm not sure they would want to...

Re: UHD release announcements

They were probably to coincide with the theatrical release of 'Coming 2 America' which was originally supposed to happen in August.

Re: UHD release announcements

The reason is pretty simple and not funky. He wanted HFR and 48 FPS is twice the normal theatrical 24 FPS.

Re: UHD release announcements

Probably has to do with the production workflows. Easier to push the more modern films through a 4K delivery pipeline, but maybe some more work that needs to be done to facilitate the older movies.
