Re: UHD release announcements

I hate polls like this where I haven't seen every nominated title. I picked League of Their Own for the first group even though I'm not a huge fan of that movie. Amused that they included Remains of...

Re: UHD release announcements

Backdraft was released in 70mm at least- and it might be the first movie on the 4K format to show an 8-track tape!

Re: UHD release announcements

MGM's most significant titles in recent years have been from the smaller defunct studios they've gotten rights to, like Orion and American International. Wouldn't mind some good B-movies in 4K, even...

Re: UHD release announcements

Cliffhanger was one of the last big 70mm releases also.

The manufacturer Warner used for their HD-DVDs had some serious problems, many of those discs are now rotted. I collected every title on the...

Re: UHD release announcements

Did anyone buy Van Wilder on UHD? (I have it on D-VHS!)

Re: UHD release announcements

I hardly buy any CDs anymore, but still buy a good number of music videos old and new. Lots of concert laserdiscs and VHS have been in rotation for decades, and I'll usually buy new releases the week...

Re: UHD release announcements

And so is the format by continuing to put out 2D presentations of 3D titles. That's not an upgrade.

Re: UHD release announcements

Jurassic World in 2D???

As for Die Hard, I'll just wait for all the complaints about it being out of focus (it's SUPPOSED to look like that! The 20th Century Fox logo is supposed to be...

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

Especially since those are supposed to be in 3D! (I saw a free theater showing of Gods of Egypt and thought it was OK, I'll be buying it on 3D BR but could care less about 4K if it's only in 2D.)

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

Released in 3D on their first run (ones done years later for disc like Predator don't count)- I wish they didn't do post-conversions, but they do so that's part of the movie. The 2D versions of...

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

I won't buy any 3D movies in 2D, period. However if a 2D movie gets released as a UHD/BD combo, that's what I'll buy so I can have the better version when I'm equipped for it.

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

And the lack of 3D makes the color and contrast differences a wash anyways.

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

Well, that's a good sign- I don't think any of the first Blu-Rays were priced that low. Prices generally come down further after a while too.

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

I recently heard that even 4K theatrical projectors don't support 3D at this point. But that still begs the question, why release 3D movies in 2D on this new format? ALL 4 of Warner's initial titles...

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

Even MORE 3D titles in 2D- no thanks. How about the next super-hi-res format forgoes color?

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

2 of those titles should be in 3D, but aren't (and 3D is the only reason I saw "The Smurfs 2" or the first one for that matter). Yawn.

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

Most recent Disney Blu-Rays aren't region coded anyways. In fact it seems more of the smaller studios region-code Blu-Rays now than the majors (likely because a different company owns the rights to...

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

If they go in with that attitude and DON'T overprice them like they did with laserdiscs, they should do OK.

One thing about releasing classic titles right away- inevitably as more people get into...

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

So why are they putting out 3 titles that were SHOT in 3D (not converted)? Their 2D resolution likely isn't even 4K. This isn't a good start.

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray
