I think he just means he's getting older, not that anything is necessarily happening to him right now (otherwise he'd make some kind of announcement about retiring from comics, it's not like drawing...

I liked Rob's Hawk and Dove too, but even if I were a hardcore fan I'm not sure I'd buy a book just for a cover artist (unless I had like every cover ever drawn by them or something).

I have no idea who the colorist is but none is credited, and as someone noted above Liefeld is the inker.

I think this is the project he got mad about a variant cover spoiling something and left...

Yeah, unless he's just going off on clueless fans, I don't see that as an issue. If someone made bootlegs of your work that you weren't getting credit or paid for, I'm sure you wouldn't want to sign...
