Re: BLOOD SIMPLE and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK -- 8/3/10

Agreed x 1000. I bought the UK import last year and instantly regretted it. It's garbage, pure and simple. The new MGM release, while not demo material, blows the UK release out of the water in terms...

Re: Miramax Dead

Is Disney's asking price for the Miramax catalog simply too high or are other studios simply looking to "pick and choose" more than take the whole shabang?

re: Universal brings back flipper combos - defect reports go here

Gizmo, what are the odds that this adoption of flipper-discs will get Universal to consider releasing more catalog titles? Specifically ones that never even made it to HD-DVD?

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Yeah, 3 flicks on one disc is a bummer, but I really don't feel like bitching too much since Disney will never release these in the U.S. AmIright, Giz?

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Looks like the "Pulse" disc coming out tomorrow is 1:78 instead of OAR of 2:35.1

Not boding well for "H20" and "Resurrection"...

re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!

I love the scene in which Merry pledges his allegiance to Theoden, but I know it being gone doesn't hurt the story. Same thing with the added scene after Gandalf and Pippin talk to Denethor.

re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the confrontation with Saruman does occur in the book, but his death doesn't occur until way later during the Scouring of the Shire. Gandalf and the Witch-King...

re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!

For me, the EE of ROTK is a slippery slope. There are scenes included that I feel greatly improve the story (confrontation with Saruman, the Witch-King breaking Gandalf's staff, and the message from...

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Nice. I was wondering when Alliance would get around to releasing Dimension's older "Halloween" movies.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

I was seriously hoping on Universal cashing in on the release of "The Lovely Bones" by offering up "The Frighteners" on blu. Both do concern the afterlife... :)

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

I know their financial situation is dire, but wouldn't that be a big embarrassment for the Weinstein Co. if a major release like Halloween 2 doesn't get a blu release?

Re: Terminator Salvation to get a R-Rated release...

Terminator Salvation is a long way from being the worst of the big summer releases. I would say that title is equally shared by the abominations known as Wolverine and Transformers 2. Those 2 movies...

re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Just finished the "lost" 13th episode Epitaph One from Dollhouse Season 1. So glad I decided to get the Blu set instead of the standard set since Epitaph One and the original pilot only have Dolby 2.0

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

I could see certain studios wanting specific titles, but I'd imagine with Disney it's probably a "all or nothing" option. Too bad...they have quite a few titles that would probably be decent sellers.

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Got ya'. Can't see why Disney wouldn't be interested in licensing more titles since they seem to have zero desire to release them on their own.

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Right, Curse of Michael Myers, H20, and Resurrection. I was under the impression that those 3 titles were still owned by Disney. Not sure if that's an issue since Alliance did release From Dusk Till...

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Gizmo...not sure if you have any inside info to Alliance's releases, but is there any chance that we'll see the pre-Weinstein Company Halloween flicks get a release up north?
