Re: My theory: change the drummer, change the band

I think for "good" bands it's more "change the songwriter, change the band".

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds recorded their double-album Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus using two different...

Re: The Hobbit

Sorry. I forgot people get worked up about these stories.

ETA: I wasn't going to see it, anyway: I don't care much for the subject matter and even littler for Peter Jackson.

Re: Better war film: "Platoon" vs. "Full Metal Jacket"?

Can't get past the constant voiceover in Platoon. Show me, don't tell me, Mr. Stone.

Re: The Hobbit

That's like saying it's okay for Dirty Harry to appear in Amistad. They're both about humans, right?

Lesser-known work from well-known writers?

I am absolutely in love with Rudyard Kipling's The Light that Failed.

Was wondering if anyone else had some under the radar favorites from famous authors.

(Another of my favorite examples is JD...

Re: Stephen King: "11/22/63" (releases on 11/8/11)

I agree. Even if you don't like the ending (and I did like it), it's a great ride. Some really well-done characters.

Unrelated note:

Lumet's death made the OP's question a lot more difficult to answer.

Re: Darren Aronofsky

I'll be watching Black Swan tomorrow. Some trusted people liked it a whole lot, and it sounded from their comments like he finally managed to successfully adapt artistry to meaning.

I really hope...

Re: Darren Aronofsky

The Wrestler. Really the only one of his I liked, though I haven't seen Black Swan. I thought The Fountain was a pretentious film on a subject which should provoke modesty.

Aronofsky would be much...

Re: Have you ever gone to a concert alone? If not, would you?

Saw David Gray at a small auditorium in...

Re: Looking for great personal essays
