Re: Kill Bill - Your take (recommendations)

My take on Kill Bill is that it's almost entirely taking place in the fantasy life of the Uma Thurman character, who is a violent pop culture junkie with an overactive imagination, seeing herself as...

Re: Django Unchained -- D: Quentin Tarantino S: Foxx, DiCaprio, Waltz -- 12/25/12

It's fine to hate the trailer. I was just baffled by how people said "it wasn't what I thought it would be," and then complain about that. :) I mean, it's an original script, not like Great Gatsby...

Re: Django Unchained -- D: Quentin Tarantino S: Foxx, DiCaprio, Waltz -- 12/25/12

You are either a Tarantino fanboy, or in denial. There is no third category. :)

Re: Django Unchained -- D: Quentin Tarantino S: Foxx, DiCaprio, Waltz -- 12/25/12

So according to at least "a few people," a trailer is the same as a film. And the Deep South is located in the west.

So mesmerizing I didn't even realize there's someone leaning over the fire behind Leo. :)

Re: Django Unchained -- D: Quentin Tarantino S: Foxx, DiCaprio, Waltz -- 12/25/12

Yeah Picasso pulled the same shit with his cubist thing.

And Faulkner with his Mississippi thing. Same old horseshit every time out.

Re: Django Unchained -- D: Quentin Tarantino S: Foxx, DiCaprio, Waltz -- 12/25/12

I love how people complain that the TRAILER didn't meet expectations. Anyone who's read the script knows that this barely scratches the surface of things.

The script is an original, the cast...

Re: My Sympathies To This Generation Of Moviegoers

The point here is a good one and those who argue against it haven't really proven that such a trend doesn't exist....only that it doesn't bother them, it's the nature of movies, etc.

I think it...

Re: The Cabin in the Woods (Goddard, 2012) — The Reviews Thread (Spoilers)

Well he made Deadly Friend and Hills Have Eyes II and Vampire in Brooklyn during his "peak" eras so I don't think his filmography breaks down that easily.

What I mean to say is that Scream is far...

Re: The birth and death of the Action Movie

I think action and adventure and fantasy are getting confused.

The Hollywood action film was definitely an 80s invention, with the rise of "high concept" and the expansion of foreign markets. ...

Re: The Cabin in the Woods (Goddard, 2012) — The Reviews Thread (Spoilers)

This was a problem for me too. The other problem was, it looked to me like Shaggy (as we are calling him) took a pretty hard knife-throw to the back, and yet showed up later, unharmed. Did I see...

Re: Indonesian action flick "The Raid" (2012) getting rave reviews

From Ebert's review:
""The Raid: Redemption" is essentially a visualized video game that spares the audience the inconvenience of playing it."

This is what I was afraid of. I'm as much of a fan...

Re: Indonesian action flick "The Raid" (2012) getting rave reviews

The more I see of this film, the less I get interested. It's not supposed to be like that, right?

I feel like I'm watching the same scene over and over. Same rhythm, location, moves, camera...

Re: Indonesian action flick "The Raid" (2012) getting rave reviews

What makes these fights special is some of the brutality, like those slashes across a guy's legs, from thigh to knee. Ouch!

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010)- The Reviews Thread

Maybe I'm just asking for trouble, but the movie sets itself up as being a grand thing and I guess I was looking for something that might not even be there. Change one man's psychological hangups and...

Re: United 93

I don't think the people on the ground were good or bad actors, just non-actors. They brought all their non-actory awkwardness to an awkward situation. They really put across a feeling of...

Re: Movies that changed movies?

The Godfather proved that a trashy bestseller can be elevated to blockbuster-epic levels in the hands of an "artistic" film-school graduate. Arguably Rosemary's Baby paved the way but The Godfather...
