re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Not to beat a dead horse...since this is pretty out there speculation anyways but I would guess the sequence of events would go like this:

1) Room 237 was acquired by IFC films at the Sundance...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Well, one can't make judgements about a film they haven't seen. I plan to check it out when it's released next year. I think it's likely a lot better than your giving it credit for as it got rave...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Nope. The documentary was picked up by IFC Films at Sundance last year. Obviously I haven't seen it, since it has only screened at festivals so far.

I was just suggesting that if Criterion were to...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

The challenge with aspect ratios with Kubrick's later pictures is that he used multiple ratios within a film, so you almost have to go scene by scene.

The major issue with The Shining is that it...

Re: Out-Of-Print Titles (recently discovered) [2nd thread]

I'm interested in seeing the list of what Paramount titles Warner Brothers acquired. Is that information going to be available on your site soon? Great work on maintaining your database, it's...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Criterion did not license a single title from Warner Brothers in the laserdisc era. On laserdisc they released many classic films from MGM and RKO. They licensed those films directly from those...

Paramount is celebrating their centennial in 2012. They will be releasing blu rays of a lot of catalog titles. On Home Theater Forum, they've already confirmed that a blu of Chinatown is in the...

Re: Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery Bankruptcy-Store Closing Thread-2010

My local store in Alberta, Canada just started the liquidation. None of the discs had been priced yet so I had to take a pile to the counter and have each one scanned. They were all old catalog...

Re: Out-Of-Print Titles (recently discovered) [2nd thread]

It was released in 1980. It is 2010, hence it's 30th anniversery. Smells like a rerelease is in the works for later this year, IMO.

Re: Out-Of-Print Titles (recently discovered) [2nd thread]

I wasn't dead wrong about the Paramount titles. When they initially appeared on the list, most titles still had at least one other sku that was still active. Paramount discontinued any remaining UPC...

Re: Disney re-releasing Studio Ghibli (Miyazaki) films

Princess Mononoke is a Miramax title. Disney is in the midst of selling off it's Miramax library....someone else will end up with the rights. I secretly hope somehow it winds up with Criterion.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Does anyone have any sources/connections at Barnes and Noble? Would they be able to find out what the Criterion sale from 11/10 to 11/23 is all about? Hopefully another 50% sale?

Re: Out-Of-Print Titles (recently discovered) [2nd thread]

These titles aren't discontinued. Check Mike's "Movie Mayhem" page and look at the titles more closely. They all have 3/4 different "releases" with different UPC codes. While certain UPC codes were...

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

Re: What movie will Criterion #500?

Goke is most likely going to be in the J-Horror Eclispse set that's in the works. Ice Storm is fantastic. Thin Red Line? I've asked Mulvaney about the film several times, he never denies it and gives...
