Re: Help identfy a song. "Sequel" to Monster Mash

There are a few hundred rock n roll/rockabilly monster songs recorded from 1957-mid 60s. Could be any one of them.

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

Sometimes live versions are included in the no re-recording clause. If an artist changes labels and wants to release a live album they can't include songs from the previous label on the live album....

Re: John Carpenter's Suburban Screams (Peacock) - premieres 10/13/23

I've seen the first two and the first does suck. The second about the serial killer is pretty good.

Re: RIP power-pop icon Dwight Twilley

Unless you're very young you've heard "I'm on Fire" (1975) a zillion times, and "Girls" (1984ish) a billion times. It was all over MTV.

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

Some artists have released complete tour sets containing every single show complete. If her fans are rabid enough she might getaway with a massive cd set of 52 complete shows. You need every show to...

Re: The Continental: From the World of John Wick (Peacock) - event series - premieres 9/22/23

I watched the scene again and the line isn't there. Must be some kind of Mandella thing. Looking it up, show is set around 1975-77 according to creators.

Re: The Continental: From the World of John Wick (Peacock) - event series - premieres 9/22/23

I got it from the Miles character telling Winston that 20 years after coming back from Nam, Winston quit working with them and went to work for Cormac at the Continental. This is in the back room of...

Re: What do you think is the quintessential 80’s movie?

Yeah. You can't set the criteria if opinions differ on what the criteria is. You're left with being forensic about it so the only criteria is that the movie was released in the 80s, so every 80s...

Re: What do you think is the quintessential 80’s movie?

Looking the definition up, quintessential means "perfect example". Charles Bronson was the quintessential tough guy.
There can be more than one perfect example. There is no "the" quintessential.

Re: The Continental: From the World of John Wick (Peacock) - event series - premieres 9/22/23

Frankie's Vietnam buddy, the helicopter pilot says it. They had their gun dealing operation in Vietnam and continued it after coming back to the states. The pilot says something like, "20 years after...

Re: The Continental: From the World of John Wick (Peacock) - event series - premieres 9/22/23

Pretty good. Movie quality. No ads. Lot of the budget was probably for the music.
At first a little confusing figuring out all the characters and order of events but that worked itself out.
This...

Re: What do you think is the quintessential 80’s movie?

Good. Because there's no right answer.

Surprised nobody brought up Flashdance or Scarface. It's not about opinion as the varying experiences we had. We're like the three blind men describing an...

Re: What do you think is the quintessential 80’s movie?

Agree. All those ooze 80s. But teenage boys are only a segment of the population. When I think of quintessential, I think of something that cannot be mistaken for being made any time other than the...

Re: What do you think is the quintessential 80’s movie?

I think filmmakers of the 80s were taking the things they enjoyed as kids in the 50s and redoing them. Raiders, Creepshow, Twilight Zone, etc.
Happy Days and Grease were about being a teen in the...

Re: What do you think is the quintessential 80’s movie?

I'd argue youth culture only sets the trend for films that are made and marketed toward youth audience which is what?, 20% of population? Most people didn't see these movies and are only remembered...

Re: What do you think is the quintessential 80’s movie?

A lot of the films mentioned are youth culture and didn't represent the 80s for the vast majority of people. If you were a kid at the time, yeah. Even though Woodstock and Easy Rider ooze the 60s,...

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread

Solidarity striking isn't allowed. It's considered walking off the job and you can be fired. Company doesn't have to let you come back because technically you quit. Union cannot strike while under...

Re: Who changed your perception with one role/film? Actor or Director

When an actor who is loved by the public and always plays the good guy takes a turn as the villain and pulls it off. They are pure evil and you are really taken aback.
One example off the top of my...

Re: The Rolling Stones - Hackney Diamonds - 10/20/23

Angry - Catchy but uninspired. More of a rocker you find buried in middle of album. Doubt it would crack the top 20 back in the day.
The Album- "Rolling Stone Blues" is what I'm anxious to hear. It...
