Re: Jurassic World (2015, Trevorrow) S: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard

It boggles the mind which movies get a Reviews thread here over others. Really wish this forum was moderated better. The Criterion Forum puts this to shame.

Re: Jurassic World (2015, Trevorrow) S: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard

Pretty much a perfect Jurassic Park movie. Everything worked and was just flat out better than the sequels. The kids were better here than the original's kids (Spielberg always has the worst...

Re: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) (D: Snyder; S: Gadot)

I think the Flash could be DC's "Iron Man". In the hands of the right director, and the right lead, it could be a super fun, action movie that launches a billion dollar franchise. They would just...

Great movie. One of my favorites of the year so-far.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

It'll be coming to Netflix on June 16. One of my favorite movies of last year. Definitely worth checking out.

Re: Game of Thrones (S5E06) -- "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken" -- 5/17/15

The only thing worse than people complaining about Sansa's rape scene are people complaining about people complaining about Sansa's rape scene. Well done, DVDTalkers.

Re: Tomorrowland (2015, Bird) S: Clooney, Robertson, Laurie

Since the PG-13 rating was introduced, I'd say decent live-action PG-rated films are a thing of a rarity.

Re: Game of Thrones (S5E06) -- "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken" -- 5/17/15

I agree. This show goes to great lengths to torture the most sympathetic characters and when the comeuppance happens, it's never as satisfying.

I wasn't here to read the reactions of Joffrey's...

Re: Mad Men (S7E14) -- Series Finale -- "Person to Person" -- 5/17/15

4chan, of all places, had the best concise analysis of the ending I've read so far:

Re: Tomorrowland (2015, Bird) S: Clooney, Robertson, Laurie

I was disappointed when I saw the PG rating. I know that shouldn't matter but in a live action film that basically means nothing happens. Couple that with the poor reviews and I'll be skipping it.

Re: Steve Jobs (2016, D: Boyle / W: Sorkin) S: Fassbender, Rogen, Waterston, Winslet

Except this one showed Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet. The words in the trailer read, "From Director Danny Boyle and Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin"

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Miller, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Also, not too dredge up the feminist conversation earlier, but this one was a lot less feminist-centric than I expected going into it.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Miller, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Saw this tonight. Such beautiful cinematography for an action film. The editing was seamless, no shaky-cam anywhere. It felt like an old school action movie from the 70s or 80s. I gave it 5/5 stars.

Re: Criterion Wish List

I wish Criterion would prioritize silent films. I'm grateful for the Chaplins but those are kind of low-hanging fruit, prefer more German works.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Miller, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

I was curious about the lone critic who gave it a bad review. Nothing extraordinary stands out in his reviews except he gave a more favorable ranking to Fifty Shades of Grey than both Fury Road and...

Re: NBC announces Fall 2015 Schedule

Feel like I've been spoiled by AMC, Netflix, and HBO. I just don't understand how so many people still watch so much from the big networks.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Miller, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

I like this analogy. I get what you're saying, the extremists are such a small minority much like they are in any group.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Miller, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Calling a women's equality movement "anti-man" is like calling the civil rights movement "anti-white".

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Miller, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Maybe but I've seen similar ideas posted on reddit, other message boards, and even one poster here in this thread!

I'm not sure we should get all worked up but at same time I'm sure those views...

Re: X-Men: Apocalypse (D: Singer; May 27th, 2016)

I don't think Storm's powers are a problem. Wolverine is indestructible and yet he's always been written as a compelling character. It's all in the story.

Yeah, I get the rights issues with Black...
