Re: Satanic Rites of Dracula--best version?

The best I've seen is the Region 2 release by Optimum. You can get this, and 20 other films in their "Ultimate Hammer Collection". It's an incredible deal for approx $45....all films are anamorphic...

Re: Horror Express and The House that Dripped Blood from Severin

I already own 2 different copies of THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD because of the extras so not sure if I'll go yet again, even for blu-ray.....but HORROR EXPRESS is a whole different story. I can't...

Re: What movies would you have bought if they were on DVD instead of DVD-R?

I've purchased about 20 titles at this point and so far so good. The $20 price point is too much so I wait for the inevitable sale and then buy accordingly. I'm thrilled to get many of these rare...

Re: do you think blu ray will over take dvds?

Well, its hardly unethical. The marketplace dictates these changes. A better format has come along...like it always has. The studios will be all for it, a chance to cycle through their catalogs all...

Re: do you think blu ray will over take dvds?

I think you see some of the DVD pricing that you do is an attempt to blow out stock at this point. The format shift IS coming quickly, whether people like it, or not. The transition, like before, is...

Re: do you think blu ray will over take dvds?

Not to mention that many catalog titles are actually considerably cheaper than their DVD counterparts....like THE SEARCHERS, etc.

You can see the shift happening now with retailers. Best Buy is...

Re: "Why DVD's Better Than Blu-ray" (IGN.DVD article.)

I too can understand the need for not overdoing ANYTHING, not just DNR...I just don't agree with his assessment of PATTON. His basic point is you are losing detail in DNR. I don't know how much more...

Re: "Why DVD's Better Than Blu-ray" (IGN.DVD article.)

Yes and no...it all depends on the player you choose. My first blu-ray player's DVD picture (Sylvania made by Funai) didn't compare to the DVD player I had at the time. I have an Oppo now and its...

Re: "Why DVD's Better Than Blu-ray" (IGN.DVD article.)

The PATTON disc is one of the most amazing blu-rays I've seen of an older movie. I know a small camp has circled around Robert Harris's comments on this. If engineers can improve all older films as...

Re: "Why DVD's Better Than Blu-ray" (IGN.DVD article.)

Yes....as cheap as the players are now, they will only continue to get cheaper OR the features will improve if the low end players remain at the current $100 range. Things will always be cheaper and...

Re: "Why DVD's Better Than Blu-ray" (IGN.DVD article.)

Since I last posted on this thread some time back I've watched the price drop on blu-ray discs far lower and faster than I thought would be possible. Some amazing prices on catalog titles like THE...

Re: Rumors of Thriller (Karloff anthology series) Coming to DVD

Yes! That is one my favorites as well. I'll be so happy to retire my bootleg set. It did get me thru though so no complaints.

Re: Criterion The Third Man OOP???

I ordered a copy from Amazon and Barnes and Noble Online in hopes that one or the other would be the plastic case. Turns out both are. One will go up on eBay as soon as the insanity sets in.

re: Rumors of Thriller (Karloff anthology series) Coming to DVD

The show will be released on DVD by IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT, the same guys who did such a bang-up job on THE TWILIGHT ZONE and COMBAT! It apparently will include a good number of extras, including audio...

Re: Criterion The Third Man OOP???

Received my copy from Barnes and Noble and it too was in the plastic case....thank God. I really thought it would be the dreaded digi-pak.

Re: Universal Cult Horror Collection/TCM Exclusive

Looks like a deal to me. MOD has been pretty heavily criticized by some but look at the pretty niche stuff the WB has put out stuff that would never see the light of day....and now these obscure but...

Re: Criterion The Third Man OOP???

There are still plenty of copies to be found online at the moment, I just ordered the Blu-ray from Barnes and Noble Online. I'd been holding out for the plastic case replacement program to be...

Not really. How can anyone think EQUINOX or ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS is pretentious?

Re: Drag Me to Hell - 10/20/09

They don't cost hundreds anymore. And the catalog titles are certainly becoming reasonably priced. Best Buy had about 20 titles this week for around $12.99...all of them pretty prominent titles too....

Re: William Castle Box Set from Sony: 10/20/09

Its a shame the extras don't amount to anything much beyond the single stand alone discs. ZOTZ and 13 FRIGHTENED GIRLS don't merit the upgrade. I'll rent them from Netflix....

Re: Disappointing Criterions

Its a pretty damn good DVD / Blu-ray package though. The original first Criterion release was pretty limited in its extras by current standards.

The DEVIL AND DANIEL WEBSTER is one of my favorite...

Re: Horror/Genre Films that need a good R1 release

Hey....can't believe HORROR EXPRESS has not been mentioned. Its long OOP and the only "decent" release was a non-Anamorphic edition from Image about 10 years ago.
