Re: Disney's Mulan (2020, D: Niki Caro) -- live action

It's literally in the trailer where she has her hair up and gives herself a false name.

Re: Invisible Woman -- Director & Star: Elizabeth Banks

He directed The Book of Henry, which was so bad it got him fired from Star Wars. Also became quite the douchebag as a result of his success from Jurassic World. You would think he would get Tranked....

Re: Knives Out (2019, W/D: Rian Johnson) S: Craig, Evans, Curtis, Collette, Shannon, Stanfield, de Armas

LOL. The town only had 3500 people back then, so everyone already knew where everyone else already lived.

re: The Last Duel (2021, D: Ridley Scott) S: Damon, Affleck, Driver, Comer

I can't see Damon or Affleck in a movie set in the 14th century.

re: Saved by the Bell (Peacock) -- reboot series

Very odd (or possibly a lie) about MPG not knowing about it. He, Berkeley and Lopez were all at a big fan convention in Toronto a few weeks ago. Surely the other two would have told him, "hey, new...

Re: Hustlers (2019, D: Scafaria) S: Lopez, Wu, Reinhart, Palmer, Stiles, Cardi B

J. Lo is getting early Oscar buzz for this role. Critics say it's the best she's been since Out of Sight.

Re: Do you miss/wonder about directors that kinda faded into obscurity?

Is this a joke?

I know he's dead, but Irvin Kershner didn't direct a whole lot after The Empire Strikes Back. You think that would have given him more Hollywood cachet.

Re: The Farewell (2019, d: Lulu Wang, s: Awkwafina, Tzi Ma)

Some of the names are cool but others are terrible. Looking at you, Ice Cube, Ice T, Eminem and 50 Cent.

Re: Official Secrets (2019, D: Gavin Hood) S: Knightley, Fiennes, Smith, Goode

It's hilarious that the cast has entirely changed since the initial announcement was made in the original post.

re: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023, D: Mangold) S: Ford - News, rumors, etc.

You run into the white saviour trope then, which would go over like a lead balloon.

Re: 13 Reasons Why (Netflix) -- Series Thread

Holy shit. I was aware that Season 3 was a thing because of the cliffhanger from last season, but wasn't even aware of its production or that it's even out already.

Re: Do you miss/wonder about directors that kinda faded into obscurity?

Yeah, I wonder about this too. There are not famous directors who made some successful movies and then they just faded out.

Funny that BFFs Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts both portray Gretchen Carlson in each competing project.

Re: Event Horizon TV series in development at Amazon (from EP Adam Wingard)

Aw, I'm in to watch this. I have fond memories of Event Horizon. It was the first horror movie I saw in a movie theatre, and I'm happy it's gotten a strong cult following over the years.

Re: Do you watch older movies that return to the theatre for a "special" engagement?

Very occasionally. I saw Titanic 3D back in 2012(?) and I saw The Dark Knight in IMAX last summer.

Re: The Boys (Amazon) C: Rogen, Goldberg, Kripke -- based on the comic -- S: Karl Urban -- premieres 7/26

It's more realistic actually. Pretend you're holding a cube of Jello in your hand. No problem, right? Now try holding it with a toothpick. It'll pierce right through. Homelander doesn't have enough...

Re: Love, Anthosha (2019, D: Garret Price) -- Anton Yelchin documentary

I read that his parents have been having an extremely hard time getting over the death of Anton, who was their only child. Hopefully this doc provides some sense of closure. Very sad.

re: Thor: Love and Thunder (2022, D: Waititi) - News, Cast, Rumors

I don't think it's that big a deal. Make her go to Brie Larson's trainer for a few months, give her a muscle suit and voila, Lady Thor.

I know it was a while ago but Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and...

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Avengers: Endgame is now the #1 highest-grossing movie of all time globally, surpassing Avatar. I honestly didn't think it could do it, what with the way the summer box office usually works. I think...

re: Thor: Love and Thunder (2022, D: Waititi) - News, Cast, Rumors

I'm really surprised Natalie Portman agreed to come back, or that Marvel even wanted her back. I thought she was totally over these movies and she and Hemsworth didn't have any chemistry together.
