Re: Late Night with the Devil (2024, W/D: Cairnes/Cairnes) S: Dastmalchian (IFC Films)

I have mixed feelings about it. Maybe my expectations were set too high.

I enjoyed the premise and the style of the talk show though I could've used more references for the era. The behind the...

Re: Fallout (Amazon; P: J. Nolan/Joy) - premieres 4/12/24 - based on the video game

Binged it in a couple days. Really entertaining. Can't say it dragged or felt too padded. Great cast of likeable leads. Some really funny scenes. Walton Goggins is top notch in both versions of his...

Re: The Hot Spot. D: Dennis Hopper. S: Don Johnson. Jennifer Connelly. Virginia Madsen.

This was the sort of flick I was thrilled to catch during an HBO/Cinemax/Showtime free preview back in the day. Good times.

Re: MaXXXine (2024, D: Ti West) -- X sequel -- S: Mia Goth

If it had been Jenna Ortega giving that performance, guaranteed Oscar nom.

Re: MaXXXine (2024, D: Ti West) -- X sequel -- S: Mia Goth

Looking good. 80's mixed with Giallo. Giancarlo is in this? Nice! Bacon laying it on thick. That line about actors who made it big from horror could also include Bacon.

Re: Joe Flaherty dead at 82

Dang. Seemed like a great guy. I really enjoyed watching him in pretty much anything. I remember first catching Count Floyd during Saturday morning cartoons on the Ed Grimley cartoon show.

I think...

Re: In The Land Of Saints And Sinners (2024, D: Lorenz) S: Neeson, Condon, Gleeson, Meaney, Hinds

This is reminding me of a little film starring Patrick McGoohan and Lee Van Cleef called The Hard Way. A hit man who wants out, largely set in the Irish countryside.

Re: Manhunt: Unabomber (Discovery) -- S: Sam Worthington, Paul Bettany, Chris Noth

Yeah very different. Aside from episode 6 of the series its very much about the investigation. Compelling stuff that gets better with each episode. Also a bit of fun to revisit the 90's like when...

Re: Manhunt: Unabomber (Discovery) -- S: Sam Worthington, Paul Bettany, Chris Noth

I binged the show so it didn't feel tedious or drawn out to me at all. A shame this wasn't originally Netflix because it deserved way more acclaim and viewers.

Having just finished the last...

Re: Manhunt (Apple TV+) - John Wilkes Booth / Lincoln limited series - premieres 3/15/24

Thanks.
That thread didn't show when I did my Advanced Search of this forum. I searched "manhunt" and then "unabomber" with thread only results and nothing showed. Of course now that my post has...

Re: Manhunt (Apple TV+) - John Wilkes Booth / Lincoln limited series - premieres 3/15/24

This is unrelated except for the Manhunt title. I couldn't find a thread on it but I've been watching the Manhunt about the Unabomber from 2017 and holy cow is it good! Sam Worthington is really...

Re: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024, D: Tim Burton) S: Keaton, Ryder, Ortega, O'Hara

^^^
I agree. Like one of those recuts where they turn a comedy into a horror flick. I don't have high hopes at all for this.

Re: R.I.P M. Emmet Walsh (1935-2024)

Aw man what a terrific actor. So many great roles with such a range. Really great unique voice. Loved his work in Clean & Sober, Blood Simple, Straight Time, to name a few. Made any movie better.

Re: Drive-Away Dolls (2024, D: Ethan Coen) S: Qualley, Viswanathan, Feldstein, Pascal, Domingo, Damon, Ca

Yeesh. This was disappointing. Margaret Qualley certainly has her mothers genes and is exudes a quirky energetic charm. In fact there's plenty of solid performances. Colman Domingo is very funny with...

Re: Manhunt (Apple TV+) - John Wilkes Booth / Lincoln limited series - premieres 3/15/24

Might have to check this one out. It is a story that has a lot of moving parts beyond the main assassination. I only recently stumbled across the name Boston Corbett and was surprised to learn he was...

Re: Venom: The Last Dance (2024, D: Marcel)

I like the back and forth between Tom Hardy and Venom. I'll watch the new one for that even though the 2nd was disappointing. The stuff in the club was fun though.

Re: What "The Punisher" movie is my sister referring to in her 1988 journal?

I think I remember seeing a promo teaser for The Punisher on either Hellraiser or Hellraiser II VHS back in the day.

Re: SNL 03/09/24 (S49E14) — H: Josh Brolin - MG: Ariana Grande

She needed to crank up the desperate crazy to come close to nailing that imitation.

Re: Late Night with the Devil (2024, W/D: Cairnes/Cairnes) S: Dastmalchian (IFC Films)

Can't wait to see this. I love the late night/talk show retro setting, shades of Mike Douglas and Tom Snyder. Dastmalchian is always interesting.

Re: Vote for your favorite Best Picture nominee (2024 Oscars)

Oppenheimer didn't wow me at all. Killers of the Flower Moon had me absorbed start to finish. Great work from everyone. I can't believe it hasn't earned more awards for the Best Picture race.

Re: Poor Things (2023, D: Lanthimos) S: Stone, Ruffalo, Dafoe

The movie is too long. I enjoyed the first half or so but it gets very repetitive. Sad to say Stone getting railed in multiple positions holds as much excitement as her expression during many of the...

Re: I Saw the TV Glow (A24) (5/3/24, D: Schoenbrun) S: Justice Smith

Intrigued by the premise but didn't make it through the trailer. The mumbling zero inflection dead voices of the characters completely killed it.

Re: The Fantastic Four (2025, D: Shakman) S: Pascal, Kirby, Moss-Bachrach, Quinn

Mads always seems to speak in low tones. I imagine Doom having a more booming explosive voice especially when angry. I wonder what Tom Hardy could do with it given his memorable work as Bane and also...
