Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Darn you! I've narrowed my collecting down to Superman-related titles, and so far overlooked this one. I have issues #164 thru 189 (missing two) - bought new off the stands. Had to stop because I...

Re: The "comics are too expensive" thread

I still vividly remember how upset I was when comics went from 12 cents to 15 cents.

I only collect the new Superman titles now, so my monthly expenses are pretty low, but it does bug me...

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Something for the Cover of the Day. The current issue of Action Comics - #1063, and #63 from 1943. What a difference 1,000 issues makes!

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Having just sold one, I can state that they were "regular" magazine size - 10 3/4 x 8.

Re: What Are You Reading 2024 (The Readening)

Wow, you've radically outpaced me! I'm over 100 pages behind you now. At least I know I'll be sticking with it, regardless of how long it takes me. I'm enjoying this, unlike the struggle Moby Dick...

Re: What Are You Reading 2024 (The Readening)

I've arrived at "Volume II" of War and Peace. After a slightly slow start I've settled into it nicely enough. Still stumbling over names when they're introduced (and a few of the recurring...

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I assume everyone here is somewhat familiar with Action Comics #1 - Superman's first appearance - but how about the second issue?? (FYI - Superman didn't appear on the cover again until issue #7)

Re: The Daily Show with guests hosts (Comedy Central)

I'm tempted, since Comedy Central isn't its own channel anymore (I'm still not clear on that beyond the app saying it's no longer there).

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

This always struck me as an outstanding cover, mostly for the mood and colors.

Re: What Are You Reading 2024 (The Readening)

If I had planned on reading it, I might've done some research about translations. But I grabbed the book on a whim at Costco, so no thought went into it.

Re: Comic Conventions

I got Charles Shultz's autograph for free back in the day (late 1970s-ish) at San Diego. I recall a later SDCC trip - late '80s maybe? - where Lou Ferrigno was signing photos for five bucks. That...

Re: What Are You Reading 2024 (The Readening)

Mine is the Penguin Classics book, translated by Anthony Briggs in 2005. I'm not literate enough to comment on one translation over another, so your credibility remains intact.

Re: What Are You Reading 2024 (The Readening)

Welp, I have taken the plunge! My version (so far) doesn't have any French language footnotes; just a few instances where it was stated someone spoke in French. Works for me! Five chapters in -...

Re: What Are You Reading 2024 (The Readening)

I had planned on starting War and Peace next, but your comment has given me pause. If I start it, I know I'll make myself finish it. But given its length I'm now hesitant to make that commitment. ...

Re: What Are You Reading 2024 (The Readening)

Just finished this. One of the few books I've read that I made extra time during the day to get back to. Very enjoyable Sci-Fi adventure!

Re: What Are You Reading 2024 (The Readening)

Started Project Hail Mary the other day. By Andy Weir; the guy who wrote The Martian (which I haven't read, but now plan to!). I'm about a quarter into this and enjoying it immensely! It's...

Re: What Are You Reading 2024 (The Readening)

Got it sittin' in my pile now. Will probably go for something "light" after Grapes, then hit into that.

Re: What's your favorite book?

My earlier post here also mentioned Contact as my favorite. I loved the movie until I read the book. The book is vastly superior!

Re: What Are You Reading 2024 (The Readening)

I have War and Peace in my "Am I ever gonna actually read this?" pile. It's the Penguin Press version, but I have no idea how different the various translations are. I'm sure not planning on doing...
