Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

I really liked the first one, but 2 and 3 turn the pretentious assassin mythology up to about 17. Number 4 is much better with more action and less mythology.

Re: Dead Ringers (Amazon) - based on the Cronenberg film - S: Rachel Weisz - premieres 4/21/23

And there was a warning about actual surgery and birthing footage.

I'm ready! Undated my avatar and everything!

Re: Dune (2021, D: Villeneuve) - News, Rumors, Etc

Theatrical exhibition is not going away. Not in the next few decades, anyway. Even aside the bigger screen/better sound argument, people just like to leave their home to go to an event. There's...

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I'm sure it'll get pulled from the Koch release, too.

I'll still get for the new extras (like the commentaries) and the 4K disc. But, yeah major letdown losing the biggest extra.

Re: The 2021 Oscars Discussion Thread

I quite liked that ceremony: No endless clips for every actor, actually show the nominees for the non acting awards, let the winners speak as long as they like, and they only went 15 minutes over.

Re: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (2019, D: Tarantino) S: DiCaprio, Pitt, Robbie

This was my least favorite tarantino movie, but I'm actually intrigued by a much longer cut. I realized with snyder's justice league that the macro can be seen in the micro. The same way a writer...

Re: Dune (2021, D: Villeneuve) - News, Rumors, Etc

If you actually want to see the second half, it needs to make money and that means pg-13. Dune is a damn weird story. It doesn't have the same appeal as Lord of the Rings with wizards and elves and...

Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81

Everyone knows Alien, but I mostly knew him from Homicide: Life on the Street. One of the few cast members who made it through the whole series.

Re: Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021, D: Watts) - S: Tom Holland

Far From Home was certainly a stupid and misleading title, based on what had just happened in the Avengers. He died fighting a demigod on an alien planet a billion miles from home, but now Europe is...

Re: Sexual Harassment/Assault & Abuse in Hollywood -- Discussion

Except that whedon wasn't some close friend that had known her for years. He was the boss, asking an employee at work if she was going to keep it.

But feel free to keep twisting that pretzel.

Re: Sexual Harassment/Assault & Abuse in Hollywood -- Discussion

Yeah, so if a woman announces a pregnancy, it's a pretty safe assumption she's going to keep.

And I'm curious if anyone from the Avengers is going to speak out. Or did Whedon keep his behavior in...

Re: Disney/Pixar's Lightyear (2022) V: Chris Evans

If they offered this to Allen, he would take it without question. If for some reason, he wanted 20 or 30 million, Disney would pay it, because they know their returns on Pixar movies.

This is...

re: Dune (2021, D: Villeneuve) - News, Rumors, Etc

We're certainly in a way worse situation now. If things go right, and a vaccine is widely available by next fall, I expect any open movie theater to do insane business and damn near every movie to be...

Re: Untitled Madonna Biopic D : Madonna W : D. Cody & Madonna

Do most musicians who still fill venues just up and retire as soon as they hit 60? Why is she singled out for hate?

And I'm honestly not a fan of her music (except for Beautiful Stranger). It's...

Re: Untitled Madonna Biopic D : Madonna W : D. Cody & Madonna

Jesus. Fucking. Christ. What's with all the Madonna hate? She wants to stay relevant? Like every other celebrity ever? This is literally exactly the same as All That Jazz. Do you all hate that movie?...

re: Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021, D: Watts) - S: Tom Holland

He took his last name from Luke Cage. His real last name is Coppola.

Re: DVD Talk Criterion Challenge Spine #12 Discussion Thread

I've only watched stuff on the Criterion Channel so far. Pulled a stack of titles from the closet, but I haven't watched one yet.

The Tune: First feature I've seen of Bill Plympton. Watched a...

Re: What movie would get you back into the theater? (Sep 2020 through 2021 or beyond)

Obviously they should adjust while the pandemic is ongoing, but candyrocket said theaters would be closed permanently. Studios would not be okay with that.

Re: What movie would get you back into the theater? (Sep 2020 through 2021 or beyond)

The best way to make money is to sell consumers the same product more than once. Theater and home video and different experiences. You can sell a movie once, then three months later sell it again....

Re: Gemini Man (2019, D: Ang Lee) S: Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, Benedict Wong

I quite liked it, even though it does feel incredibly dated.

If it had been released 20 years ago, I could see it being one of the action high points of the decade. Maybe not as high a point as...

Re: What movie would get you back into the theater? (Sep 2020 through 2021 or beyond)

Only thing that might do it is Dune. Even then, probably not.

I hope Warner learned their lesson with Tenet and its theater only BS. I was happy to pay $20 for Bill and Ted at home. I'd pay $100...

I just checked out MovieChat. Yikes. Looks like they got all the dregs from the old IMDB boards. Currently they're trashing Kamala Harris, Chrissy Teigen, and saying how inappropriate it is for...

re: Avatar: The Way of Water (2022, D: Cameron) S: Worthington, Saldana

It certainly feels like it's too late for an Avatar sequel. Or four.

But Cameron's always been right about what audiences want to see next. Now that he's established the basics of the world, we...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I really lucked out with the Bruce Lee set. Called the closest B&N the day it came out. Was told all their copies had already been pre-ordered. Several hours later, I went to get a few other titles...
