Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

The only time I've ever noticed that sort of damage was on new comic book day in the backroom at the comic shop I shopped at back then, but it stands to reason that many books in that condition were...

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I think that's a 100 comic bundle, and packs that size usually went to distributors, who would then parcel out the books and deliver them to drugstores, grocery stores, etc. Comic shops (which were...

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Speaking of Star Wars comics, here's a couple more pics I saw on Facebook recently. I wasn't buying comics weekly when this one came out, but they were still being delivered this way when I did....

Re: Movies that feature actual comic books

In I Am Joe's Eye (1983), illustrating that "it's just a myth that reading in dim light is bad for" your eyes, a kid is seen reading a reprint of Weird Fantasy #13 (EC Classic Reprint #5 - East Coast...

Re: Random comic-related pic thread

I found that one (along with Previews 4,5, & 6, and a few DC Releases) last night while straightening out some stuff. I don't know if I have Previews 1 & 2, or where they are if I do.

Re: Random comic-related pic thread

I was already a horror movie fan, especially Christopher Lee's Hammer films, so all it took to draw me in was was "Dracula" on the title.

I used to think I didn't really get into comics until...

Re: Random comic-related pic thread

I saw this on Facebook last week and thought it looked really cool. I can't imagine how much the guy spent slabbing all those books, let alone where he found all those high grade copies.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I guess it could still be considered "serious collecting" to some, but I was no longer going to the shop every week and obsessing over picking the best copy for myself, I quit bothering to keep a...

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Mike's Amazing World of Comics (http://www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/comic.php?comicid=60852) is a great site for looking up covers, publishing dates, etc.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

1980-1986 about covers my "serious collecting days" too. I read comics occasionally starting around 1973, I guess (I still have comics and the Slurpee cups I got that year), but really got into them...

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Murphy Anderson signed my copy of that Detective comic, and Nick Cardy signed my Showcase #76. :D

I feel so lucky to have been into '60s & '70s comics at a time when many of them could be found...

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I bought the comics (have a really long run of Our Army at War/Sgt. Rock). I remember the action figures, but I could never find a Sgt. Rock, just other figures in the set (that I didn't want).

Re: Random comic-related pic thread

Re: Random comic-related pic thread

 Good catch. I really only wrote that because I don't think my soundtracks are in order, and I was too lazy to dig out my copies of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and What's New Pussycat?

Re: What are the gems of your collection?

I doubt any of my original art would be of much interest to other people - I couldn't afford covers, or splash pages, but I bought stuff I liked when I could afford it. I thought I had a half-page of...

I think I was misremembering here. After doing a search for the Warp Graphics A Distant Soil covers online, the only ones that looked familiar were #1 and #5, so I probably don't have "a bunch of...

Re: What are the gems of your collection?

In the early '80s, before she published A Distant Soil, Colleen Doran shopped at the same rundown comic shop where I bought my comics. I used to see her there on new comic book day, until she moved...
