Sony stre845 reciever and optical

Is there a way on the sony reciever to set the optical ports on the reciver to point to a different source. Example: I have a tape/md optical on the back, can i make this point to tv?

Digital Cable and Dolby Digital 5.1

How is it possible to get dolby digital 5.1 surround sound on digital cable. I notice on alot of movies on tv and shows they say presented in 5.1.

On the back of the digital cable box all i see...

When i press it i see options for:
effect
surround sound freq
front speaker freq
and a few other options

but i dont seem to see...

Bose fall off trucks all the time. I have to tell you that the speakers sound great in my family room. One of the things i really like about them is the size and the ability to hide them.

I lost my instruction book but does anyone know how to set up the reciever so you can change the settings for the speakers from large to small or vice versa?

I understand about the bose, i have read the complaints. It is sorta like sony for me i have never had a problem so i wont stop buying there products plus i got a great deal on the set.
