Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Tower Comics was started by publisher Harry Shorten who struck a deal with Wally Wood to basically let Wally loose to create characters and concepts for a new superhero comics line. The most notable...

Re: The One and Only Kickstarter Comics Thread

Kirt Burdick's next installment of Death of Power has seven days to go. It's not for everyone but if you're up for a NSFW underground-style Death of Superman parody comic then this is for you. ...

Re: The Best Thing I Read This Week (2024)

It's a history of the development of hip hop as a genre and a culture. It certainly highlights many of rap's characters like Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, other early DJs and MCs, and...

Re: Shin Ultraman - a flawed Blu-ray release

I waited on this and now it looks like I have a choice of 4 different versions. I like Raven Banner's artwork but Cleopatra's subtitle description sounds good. Now I'm torn.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe shows on Disney+ Discussion Thread - news, rumors, etc.

That was always an odd list for me. Iron Man knocked out the Hulk once but seems too high, as does Wonder Man. Swap one of them out for Namor. Captain America seems way too low but maybe this was...

Re: Assassins' Creed Mirage (10/5/23; PC/PS/Xbox)

Long story short (as I understand it): The First Civilization was an ancient advanced race of humanoids. They created the human race to be their slaves and were so advanced that they appeared as gods...

Re: Assassins' Creed Mirage (10/5/23; PC/PS/Xbox)

I keep hitting circle (I think) to skip all that dialogue. You're right, it's terrible.

I finished the story over the weekend and had to read an explanation of the ending to fully understand the...

Re: Assassins' Creed Mirage (10/5/23; PC/PS/Xbox)

Yeah, I'm having a hard time connecting w/ Basim; like you said, just not a very intriguing character. I like him even less for having encountered him in Valhalla. Overall, it's not a bad game but...

Re: Keith Giffen (JLI, LSH, Ambush Bug) has passed away :(

I read some of Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes comics as a kid but it was Giffen's early Legion work that endeared me to the title.

He'll be greatly missed.

Re: Oppenheimer (2023, W/D: Nolan) -- The Reviews Thread

If you enjoyed the film, I highly recommend The Bomb. It's a fantastic, deeply researched graphic novel about the origins of the development of the bomb. It doesn't focus on Oppenheimer specifically...

Re: The FIVE and only 5 best Westerns

1) The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
2) Unforgiven
3) A Fistful of Dollars

(I see a theme developing here, better swerve)

4) Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
5) Once Upon a Time in the West

Re: Rob Liefeld - Worst comic book artist ever?

Much of the original cover is Rubinstein and it makes me wonder how detailed Miller's pencils were. For the interiors as well. You see a lot of Rubinstein on those pages. Miller's biggest strength...

Re: Rob Liefeld - Worst comic book artist ever?

Regarding Hawk & Dove, there's info out there from Karl Kesel and Mike Carlin about how Liefeld's art had to be fixed. Including Kesel having to draw in lots of hands and feet that Liefeld just left...

Re: RIP - John Romita Sr

I believe he is. I was thinking of Steranko as part of the later group of artists that made a splash in comics but he probably came in around the same time as Sal Buscema.

I'm thinking Larry...

Re: RIP - John Romita Sr

Romita is a comic book icon and I'm glad he had a long life with his family.

Who's left from the Silver Age? I typically think of Sal Buscema as more from the second wave of Marvel artists, but I...

Re: What SINGLE movie of STEVEN SPIELBERG defines his entire career?

Schindler’s List.

My favorite Spielberg film is Jaws but Schindler’s List is his most significant film.

Re: Upcoming Marvel Omnibus Releases

It might be the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia but I still think the first 12 issues are fantastic. It gets a bit rocky at points afterward, but I still love the series overall. After the first 12...

Re: Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023, D: Sandberg) -- S: Levi -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread

Re: Marvel Comics - 2022 Thread

Count me in! This was Mantlo in his prime. I don't expect much out of comics based on toys but he hit it out of the park with Rom and those early Micronauts comics. I was very slowly picking up back...

Re: Independent Comics (Image, Dark Horse, IDW, BOOM, etc.) - 2022 Thread

I love IDW's newspaper comic strip books. They do great work with the Library of American Comics.
