Re: Star Trek: Picard (Paramount+) -- News, rumors, etc.

Akiva, though, is the one that was brought on to help with Discovery while it was still in production and wondered why they weren't doing a Pike show if they were in that time period and so he's...

Re: Star Trek: Picard (Paramount+) -- News, rumors, etc.

It never fails to astonish me to read about how much Paramount hates Star Trek. It has made so much money for them over the years but they still treat it like a second tier IP.

Re: New releases for the week of Monday, March 18th, 2024

I’ll probably get that Daleks release if I find it cheap.

Two sentences that are keeping the boutique labels afloat.

Re: The Official 88 Films Blu-ray Thread

Low level college courses are numbered 100/101, they might be referencing their role as a "film school" type seller.

Or they love 101 Dalmations.

Either way, I'm seeing some interesting titles...

Re: Unpopular Opinion - Video Game/Gaming Edition

Not gonna directly quote the other poster, but I disagree about Nintendo and graphics. They've "innovated" enough at this point, their AAA games shouldn't look like they're 2 generations behind the...

Re: The Official 88 Films Blu-ray Thread

I'm a little embarrassed I didn't think of Back to the Future, that's never been a top favorite trilogy of mine (it's good, occasionally damn good, it's just not near the top. Though if I happen to...

Re: The Official 88 Films Blu-ray Thread

OK, not too upset as it spaces out some of my purchases this spring

By the way, does anyone know what the name 88 Films is about? I was reading a guide about Nazi/far right symbology and was...

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

I'm okay to wait. Only The Abyss is a "must buy" and it's been so long a little more time won't hurt.

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

Target was a bust, there was a kid putting out stock from a cart but he didn't know about it and I didn't see any copies in his cart.

Also ran through Best Buy and the one by my work has zero...

Re: Future Star Trek TV projects discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

The idea has been around since the 90s when Paramount realized the TOS crew weren't going to be around forever. The Academy movies they were considering back then would be recasts of the TOS crew,...

Re: How old will you be when you give up gaming?

My wife and I are both 49 and we are already having to ease up on gaming due to arthritis and carpal tunnel and such. I can still play PoGo, but console games and such are harder and harder to do for...

Re: Future Star Trek TV projects discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

They're going to make this Dawson's Creek in Space, like they wanted to do with Enterprise back in the day.

See, this is going to be controversial but I think fandoms like this might just need a...

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

Looks like of the three Cameron titles, The Abyss is the only must-buy.

I don't really need the Aliens set, since there's only one new extra it seems, but if I find it even cheaper than $25 I...

Re: How many episodes do you give a series before you say, "I'm out!"

Our friends have pushed Sunny for a long time and we’ll occasionally binge 2 or 3 episodes every few weeks and it’s enjoyable in small doses.

Not long ago the wife and I got into some Devil’s...

Re: UHD release announcements

I totally splurged on that Search for Spock set. That’s been a personal favorite of mine since I was a kid in the eighties.

Glad to hear The Abyss looks good, that's the only one I'm getting and I'm hoping to find it in a store next week.

We've recently gotten back into Dragonball and you can see how it influenced so many other works, anime and all.

Re: UHD release announcements

And besides, more consumer demand for that type of product might help Toho make the decision to release something similar in other regions.

Since Criterion seems to be gathering up Toho/kaiju...

Re: How old will you be when you give up gaming?

I'll probably be 90 years old and get run over by a hovercar playing PokemonGo when I die, so, whatever option that is.

Re: UHD release announcements

That Minus One set looks amazing, I really hope that the US distributor can replicate that set exactly.

And put me down for Andor and Obi-Wan for sure.

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?

I have heard (anecdotally) that many of those cases of a dozen song writers on one song are, well, not exactly money laundering, but a way to get money to people that you want to have money but...

Re: The last Blu-ray you bought (Round 3)

I've been wanting to buy the Clue 4K from a brick and mortar store to try to get a slipcover but the nearest Best Buy that had it was several suburbs over and we hadn't been that way in a while....

Re: How many Criterion do you own?

132 plus one Eclipse.

As the other boutique labels get better at the vintage sci-fi & horror and martial arts movies I find myself less and less interested in what Criterion is doing.
