Re: The Counselor -- D: Ridley Scott -- screenplay by Cormac McCarthy -- 2013

Thought it was masterful, a great film. It is a bit outside the box I can see why audiences hated it.

Re: Captain Phillips -- D: Greengrass S: Hanks, Keener -- 10/11/13

Wow this was incredible, one of the best of the year. You keep expecting it to settle but the tension just keeps keeps getting greater.

Re: Elysium (Blomkamp, 2013) — The Reviews Thread

I agree with all of you, definite problems but still dug it. People are always saying there are no original ideas, but this one was original.

Re: Steven Spielberg Predicts 'Implosion' of Film Industry

I can see all the big directors being like Malick, taking a small budget with a couple movie stars and filming it 'guerilla style'. Then there will also be teenagers in their basements creating...

Re: After Earth (Shyamalan, Will Smith, Jaden Smith 2013) New, Rumors, Cast

Yeah this wasn't terrible but it wasn't good. It's not 3.9/10 that critics are giving it, it is closer to the 6/10 that audiences are. I think a lot of hate is from the nepotism/scientology/shyamalan...

Re: What is the best decade of Scorsese?

90s is the best without a doubt, it is where his talent, power in hollywood and growth as an artist all came together. Everything he did was a masterpiece.

Re: To The Wonder (2012) D: Terrence Malick Starring:Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams

I can't get over this film, I think it is masterful. I can't understand the bad reviews because I think it is every bit as good as anything else he has made. I always admired his work and held him up...

Re: Why did Aronofsky sell out?

I dont mean sellout for big movie franchies. I more mean of selling out his roots... like would the DA from the late 90s watch Black Swan/The Wrestler and be very impressed? I bet he would be bored...

Re: Why did Aronofsky sell out?

I like Swan and would put it in the top ten movies of that year, but if you look at his first films you have to wonder why he abandoned that incredible and eccentric style. Can you imagine how crazy...

Why did Aronofsky sell out?

What happened to the tour-de-force techno/ocd filmmaking on display in Pi/Requiem for a Dream (and The Fountain).

I mean The Wrestler/Black Swan are really fun, but they don't show his true...

Re: National Film Registry adds 25 new selections

Yawn, this again. Back-ups on obsolete/outdated film technology. It was interesting 10 years ago before digital took over, which will preserve every film for thousands of years, not just a dozen per...

Re: How do you rate Peter Jackson as a film maker?

Have you seen the first one? The others are alright, but the first one is a great work of filmmaking. It just sweeps you away. Movie magic.

Re: How do you rate Peter Jackson as a film maker?

After watching Fellowship of the Ring again... where did THAT filmmaker go? That is a masterpiece. If he kept working on that level he could've been the new Spielberg. As everyone already said his...

Re: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Jackson, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

Hated it, I feel they missed out on the basic filmmaking 101 element of plot, character and story. This was all over the place.

Re: Spielberg's Abe Lincoln Biopic - news, rumors, castings...

Phoenix was terrible IMO, two dimensional character, paper thin, no insight, just a lot of random breakdowns. Even Sandler was better in P-DL. I just hate all The Master praise and how it infiltrates...

Re: Cloud Atlas -- D: The Wachowskis S: Hanks, Grant, Berry, Weaving -- Fall 2012

This flick looks pretty bad, all the A-list overly made-up movie stars and special effects, and how serious it takes itself. I think it will be a flop because it has no market. Too much romance and...

Re: PT Anderson's next film is MASTER

I hated this film, it was soo fake and hacked together, the characters were thin and not realistic, the religious themes werent explored. It felt like three movies in one trying to duke it out. It...

Re: Nicholson VS DeNiro

Nicholson is better at owning the screen and carrying a film based on his acting/presence alone. DeNiro is better at the craft, meshing with his character and living in the reality of the film.

Exactly, I think the new generation of film watchers have emerged who haven't seen a lot, so PTA is their first experience with art film.

Re: who is the next PT Anderson

Especially when he has yet to make an original film (right now he is in Malick/Kubrick copying phase, ten years ago he was in the Scorsese/Altman copying phase). All his projects start out as "I want...
