Re: 8-Bit Christmas (2021, D: Dowse) S: Neil Patrick Harris

Yeah, I just didn't buy the premise. The NES was not some amazing thing that only a rich kid would have. I can't imagine a whole neighborhood of kids who hadn't gotten it. We got it for Christmas in...

Re: Was there a technical reason why the Sega Genesis had a limited color palette?

You know how some Sega CD versions of Genesis games were pretty much the same but with redbook audio? I like to think of SMW with the restored soundtrack as the SNES PlayStation version that might...

Re: Second-Run Discount Theaters: A thing of the past?

Aside from the pandemic, another factor here is the shortening of theatrical windows. It used to be that you'd have to wait about 6 months (or longer) for something to get to video. So if a movie had...

Re: tick, tick...BOOM! (2021, D: Lin-Manuel Miranda) - S: Andrew Garfield

So, after seeing how In the Heights did, are the stars big enough for this? Garfield is known, but he doesn't seem like a movie star.

re: Wonka (2023, D: Paul King) - S: Chalamet

Maybe we'll get to see Wonka's early experiments in shrinking horses.

Re: SNL 05/15/21 (S46E19) — H: Keegan-Michael Key, MG: Olivia Rodrigo

It's amazing it took this long, with him getting acclaim for directing movies like Get Out and Us.

(But seriously, I thought Peale would host first.)

Re: The 2021 Oscars Discussion Thread

The memorial segment isn't that bad if you watch it at half speed on YouTube. Although it does make Stevie Wonder sound like he's drunk.

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I get more of a Gremlins vibe from that clip than anything.

Re: MASK - Mobile Armored Strike Kommand (D: Gray)

Muhrites? As in "muh rights?" So they saw an anti-mask meme and made it anti-MASK?

Re: Most attractive person on TV?

Although she was playing younger, she was 19 when The Fosters started (and 27 now). Admire away.

Re: Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 Remake - 9/4/20 (One, PS4, PC)

I wonder why the Xbox One disc version is not eligible for the upgrade. And is the PC version getting anything new?

Re: EA Sports College Football to return

So what is a likeness? They never did use the names or faces of the players. Do all of the players have to have the same character model now?

re: Borderlands (2024, D: Roth) S: Blanchett, Hart, Black, Greenblatt, Munteanu, Curtis

I love Cate Blanchett as an actress, but... she's 51. I'm not sure how old Lilith is supposed to be, but it would seem to be younger.

re: Wonka (2023, D: Paul King) - S: Chalamet

If they haven't cast this thing yet, I think John Mulaney could be a great Wonka. Hopefully his rehab is going well.

Re: Disney/Pixar's Lightyear (2022) V: Chris Evans

But maybe not for this role. If this character really were Buzz Lightyear, Allen would probably get more than Evans. Just as no other actor would be paid as much as Evans to portray Captain America.

re: Every 2021 WB movie streaming simultaneously on HBO Max upon theatrical release

I wonder if this will be the end of Christopher Nolan's nearly 20-year run at Warner Bros.

Re: SNL 12/05/20 (S46E07) -- H: Jason Bateman, MG: Morgan Wallen

I think the only thing from Mooney that I've liked has been the Inside SoCal sketches. They haven't done them in a while though.

Re: Exceptional performances by an actor or actress playing a minor character?

Stephen Graham as Tony Pro in The Irishman, and as Babyface Nelson in Public Enemies (and probably others I haven't seen)

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

Mo Rocca? He's a smart guy, a bit of a comedian but not too much for the gig. He has hosted the Geography Bee since 2016 (which Trebek hosted from 1989-2013).

Re: Commercials you absolutely f&*$ing HATE

Maybe "hate" is too strong of a word, but that Macy's commercial in which the girl tries to figure out what to buy her dad for Christmas is just not realistic. He doesn't want socks; today's dad...

Re: Would you pay a small premium to legally get a new system without hassle?

Because the jump isn't as big as it was in the past. Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64 couldn't be done on the SNES. Now, there's no need for big exclusive launch titles because games can be released on 2...
