Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Yep, I saw this show in Boston last Saturday. When I first saw them in 2013, they had five original members. The drummer passed away, and the original guitarist left, so they were down to three...

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Although I hold a grudge against X for just coasting by playing oldies and not putting out any new music as a band (they've been doing this reunion thing for going on twenty years now, I...

Re: Pete Shelley (Buzzcocks) dead at 63

Maybe the best ear for melody of any of the punk songwriters. This is my favorite:

Re: Post a song you like or love.

I always loved Roland Gift's voice. Their best song, IMO:

Re: Post a song you like or love.

Andy Prieboy was fine in Wall of Voodoo, but I'm definitely more of a Stan Ridgway fan. And on that note, here's one of Stan's later ones. This is a classic tale of the rise and fall of a rock...

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Saw Elvis Costello last night in Boston. It was my first time seeing him, and it was a fantastic show. I know he had some health issues earlier in the year, but his voice was strong and whole band...

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Huh, I was not familiar with Lone Bellow, but checked them out on Youtube, pretty cool. I totally missed that show coming around, or I might have gone-- I live about a mile and a half from Shalin...

Re: Sinead O'Connor attempts suicide

I remember she sang some backup for World Party:

Re: Sinead O'Connor attempts suicide

I wish she had been stable enough to have had a career with consistent output. I still love The Lion and the Cobra. Her vocals on Mandinka were incredible.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Psychedelic Furs at the Cabot in Beverly, MA last week.

They sounded great. I don't keep up with them enough to know who is original besides Richard Butler, but the songs sounded spot-on, and...

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Simple Minds at The Orpheum, Boston. Maybe my favorite band of all time.

Pretty good show, and the set list was amazing. However, for one of the first times ever, a band member made me angry! ...

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Yep, they did it in reverse order at my show as well, which probably works better since the big hits are on the first side.

Jamie West-Oram's playing is so great and distinct, IMO--he's a...

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

The Fixx at Tupelo Music Hall in Derry, NH last weekend.

I've seen them a couple times the last few years but this was the tour where they played Reach the Beach in its entirety, plus other...

Re: The Thompson Twins/Tom Bailey

I'll have to give this whole album a listen.

I liked the Thompson Twins well enough, although I definitely preferred the earlier synth-pop stuff like "Lies" and "Love On Your Side." I saw Tom...

Re: A.I. Artificial Intelligence or Minority Report

I loved Minority Report.

While A.I. might have been a good film, the story was just not really my thing.

Re: Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019, Dougherty) S: Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah, Elev

Yep, I suspect that's part of it. And I don't mean to harsh on this movie after one trailer--the heavy, dark CGI backgrounds in modern film are just a pet peeve of mine in general. I didn't like...

Re: Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019, Dougherty) S: Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah, Elev

That's a legitimate opinion. I'm an old-school Toho fan who loves the original Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah films, and most of the Godzilla sequels, so that's where I'm coming from in my preference...

Re: Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019, Dougherty) S: Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah, Elev

Let me rephrase it, then: the CGI dark skies, clouds, smoke, fog and rain that modern directors use to create their "dark" atmosphere generally look terrible and cheap to me.

Re: Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019, Dougherty) S: Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah, Elev

I was looking forward to this, but does every friggin' movie nowadays have to be so dark and rainy and smoky and foggy and dreary. Why do so many modern directors seem to hate color?

Re: Ever want to go to a concert, but can't find anyone to go with?

I probably go to about half my shows alone. Basically, if it's a show I really want to see, I'm going regardless.

With friends the whole evening is more fun, because we usually go out to dinner...
