Re: Dune: Part Two (2024, D: Villeneuve) -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread

I rewatched Part One last night as I hadn't seen it since its initial release. Visually interesting but still slow and boring. This was more of the same. I just don't care that much about Paul and...

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

To be fair, that's pretty much how the stage show works too. The first act is primarily performances that tie into the story (like "Steppin' to the Bad Side" while they are handing out payola).

Re: The Unpopular Movie Opinion Thread, Part III

Hmm, I think all of those people are great actors. I recently rewatched Dreamgirls and Eddie Murphy is fucking PHENOMENAL in that movie. He deserved an Oscar for it.

Re: Civil War (2024, D: Garland) S: Dunst, Spaeny, Moura

I think this will be a skip at the theater - it seems more like something to watch at home some afternoon. It's too depressing to head out for an evening and spend money on a movie like this.

Re: Unpopular Opinion - Video Game/Gaming Edition

I kept physical games for a LONG time but I just traded in a bunch at our local game store (along with my PSVR, a Wii U and two PS4s) and got a fraction of what I probably could have gotten...

re: Unpopular Opinion - Video Game/Gaming Edition

I've never once cared about the story in a video game. Not one time. Not even an RPG.

And if it's a shooter, I want to be dropped in to a map with a gun and an objective. I need nothing else.

Re: The 96th Academy Awards --> 2024 Oscar Awards Show Discussion

The Oscar ratings will never rise significantly. But doing better than previous years is a good thing, probably because they nominated movies people actually saw and liked.

Re: What "The Punisher" movie is my sister referring to in her 1988 journal?

This is a fun exercise. I was trying to think of something with the skull motif but they best I could come up with was Casey Jones in TMNT but that didn’t even come out in theaters until 1990.

I’m...

Re: Venom: The Last Dance (2024, D: Marcel)

I think the 2nd movie is fine but even if I didn’t, without Spider-man, what do you do for Venom instead of Carnage?

Re: Madame Web (2024, D: Clarkson) S: Dakota Johnson

It’s actually not bad enough for that.

My son is home for spring break and wanted to see this so we went to a non-Alamo theater (breaking my own rule) but it was just the two of us in the...

Re: Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire (2023, D: Zack Snyder) - Netflix

What is the “obvious wink” here?

I wonder if he’s counting people who “turned it on” and then immediately turned it off?

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023, D: Wan) -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread -- RIP DCEU 2013-2023

Randall Park - he’s an FBI/SWORD agent in the MCU. Super weird that the actor was in this movie too.

Re: Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire (2023, D: Zack Snyder) - Netflix

When I talk about how I think Zack Snyder is up his own ass, this is what I’m talking about.

Re: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024, D: Kenan)

I have both the large and small Ecto-1 LEGO sets as well as the Firehouse. I also have an Ecto-1 license plate I bought from the firehouse in NYC. I’m all good on these, I think.

Re: Madame Web (2024, D: Clarkson) S: Dakota Johnson

I have been enjoying Dakota's press tour on this thing - as I said in my little review, the actors aren't the problem. They are actually trying to salvage it and it shows.

Re: Godzilla Minus One (2023) New Toho produced Godzilla film

My hope is that this was such a buzzy hit that they might actually move a little faster to capitalize on that as much as possible.

Re: The Marvels (2023, D: DaCosta) -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread

Do you mean the power switching? I actually liked that too - as it was a visually interesting and creative way to bring three people together who would otherwise have no reason to meet one another,...

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

I've been on a real "people talking" movie kick this week. Watched The Big Short for the millionth time - that is one of my favorite "put it on in the background" movies and I usually get sucked in...

Re: Movie Theaters

Another reason I prefer the Alamo - no Nicole Kidman. We used to go to a Marcus theater near our house and they had a terrible series of skits with their owner. Like I would have been ashamed to be...

Re: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024, D: Kenan)

There is no way Murray does another one of these. Akroyd is probably up for whatever but Murray doesn't need this. I'm not sure Potts and Hudson do either.

I still don't understand why this had to...

Re: The Marvels (2023, D: DaCosta) -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread

Both of those scenes were highlights for me - the singing planet was funny and an interesting take on an alien race that I've never seen before and the cats scene was just flat-out funny, especially...

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?

A good cover (especially of a well-known song) is often more interesting to listen to than the original.
