Just a heads up: Members on other forums are reporting that the new firmware update for the Momitsu 899 and its clones (including the Sherwood) DISABLES REGION-SWITCHING CAPABILITIES!

The exact same codes as the Momitsu. Which, I might add, is no slouch in the upconverting department. I can see no difference between the 899 and my Oppo 983 for SD DVD (PAL or NTSC).

Momitsu has a U.S. office in California as well and were very responsive to my concerns, since my first unit also had problems.

I think he meant a modded Panasonic. The Panny will not play PAL extras on import BDs however, unless you have a PAL-capable display (no PAL->NTSC converter). Momitsu has been around for many years...

I've only tried a PAL copy of Fistful of Dollars and it looked very good. I'm using an Oppo 983 for my multi-region SD DVD, but based on what I saw, I would not be adverse to using the Momitsu...

I found that to be the case as well. In addition, PAL extras on an import BD also play in their correct AR, which is great! A similar setting to Oppo's WS/Auto (I think that's what it's called). ...
