Re: Weekend Box Office (6/10-6/12): Super 8 opens Super Low

Well the film takes place in 1979, so VHS really wouldn't make the most sense for this movie. Sure it existed, but it was relatively new and very expensive.

I do find the notion that these kids...

Re: Weekend Box Office (5/26-5/30): Drunk Guys Do Zany Stuff: Part II

It's not a disaster, and international will still be strong but no...this is not a good opening for the movie. It's way below industry expectations.

Re: The Hangover: Part II (Phillips, 2011) — The Reviews Thread

Yeah, don't forget Todd Phillips...he's the one making hte most money. $15M fee for writing, directing, and producing. That's $30M for the four key principle players.

I'm willing to bet all of...

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (David O. Russell to Write/Direct)

I find this news about Russell disapointing. I could give a crap about a faithful Uncharted movie...the games are fantastic to a point that a literal movie adaptation just seems...utterly pointless....

Re: Weekend Box Office (5/20 - 5/22): The Rapture Is No Contender for Johnny Depp

Well I mean, I don't disagree with anything you said in terms of why it would do worse. But if you follow box office trending, tracking, etc etc it was pretty clear this film wasn't going to open...

Re: Weekend Box Office (5/20 - 5/22): The Rapture Is No Contender for Johnny Depp

Well, then you were definitely underestimating it for no good reason. There was no way this was going to open to $50M or something.

Re: Weekend Box Office (5/20 - 5/22): The Rapture Is No Contender for Johnny Depp

In its favor, it's doing gangbusters internationally and is up % wise compared to the openings of the last two Pirates.

Re: Grandma's Boy...a little gem

I'm saying that these specific plot points to do not define originality. I even already said you can name films with similar specific plot points, but are you really going to argue this film and My...

Re: Grandma's Boy...a little gem

You did notice in the film the aliens did NOT come to earth to try to kill humans? In fact, one might even consider the story of aliens coming to earth because their ship broke down to be rather...

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (Marshall, 2011) — The Reviews Thread

Well I'm sure the paycheck has SOMETHING to do with it. I have to believe the prospect of making tens of millions, and possibly even 9 figures, off a single movie has SOME impact on which movies he...

Solidsnake and droid have both posted solid rebuttals about why your reasoning is not good. Please reference their posts, I agree with both of them. It just ain't that hard to believe something...

Re: Weekend Box Office (5/13/11 - 5/15/11) - Thor #1, Bridesmaids delivers a strong #

I imagine...a lot of people, actually. Fast Five was certainly expected to open bigger than Thor.

I don't, because there isn't. I will never get your point of view, because I will never agree with it. There are certain objective realities about filmmaking, but there flat out is no definition of...

Well, they're ignoring your reasons because quite frankly, they do not agree with you and you're not making compelling arguments to convince anyone otherwise.

People completely get what you're...

Re: Cobra: The Space Pirate (2013) - (d: Alexandre Aja)

I really like Aja's work but...this is a completely different genre than the movies I like him for. And I really like his work for how well I think he does brutal horror.

That being said...I'm...

Re: Jim Caviezel- 'Rejected By My Own Industry' For 'Passion Of The Christ'

Sounds like a perfectly reasonable viewpoint on his career. Passion certainly didn't lead to more roles, based on his filmography. And, while starring in a $600M blockbuster often has that effect....

Re: Hook and What is Spielberg's worst film?

I like Hook...based mostly on Nostalgia. Yeah, fake looking sets, overly sentimental storytelling, absolutely wrestched pacing, not to mention about fourteen ends to the movie.

But man...I saw...

Airplane! for me. When I was young I just thought all the lines by the pilot to the young boy were just random meaningless lines.

Then I learned what sexual innuendo is...

Re: Tron 3 (Legacy sequel) - News, rumors, cast

I imaginie Tron 3 isn't going to get an official grenlight unless 1) the video sells above expectation or 2) the TV show does amazing business or c) all of the above.

I'm hopeful...go buy the...

Re: Hangover 2 (2011) (dir.Todd Phillips)

Yeah, the plot is exact the same. But who watches movies like this for plot...it looks funny. Good enough for me.
