Re: Sicario (2015) D: Villeneuve S: Blunt, Del Toro

Talk about missing the point. He wasn't a "hero". The very final scene of the film should have made that overtly and obviously clear to any viewer.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015, Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fisher

What bullshit theatre chain is this? Can't be AMC. They were way cool about fans dressing up, performing lighsabre duels up front and all other kinds of fan madness during the premieres of the...

Re: Bridge of Spies (2015, D: Spielberg; W: Coen Bros.) S: Tom Hanks

Saw it tonight. Loved it. I can see it scoring a couple Oscar nominations, particularly for Rylance. Script was sharp, Spielberg's handling of the adjoining East-West sequences was top-notch, pacing...

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015, Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fisher

The current December record holder is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Even if TFA doubles that amount, it still wouldn't break the all-time opening record. Tall task.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015, Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fisher

You were obviously high when you watched it. Surely you must've changed your mind by now.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015, Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fisher

Parts of the movie were shot using 3D cameras. I'm guessing the entire escape from Jakku, for one.

Re: Assassins (1995) vs Demolition Man (1993)

What's the next face off you're gonna post. Broken Arrow vs. Hard-Boiled?

Re: SNL (S41E03) -- 10/17/15 -- H: Tracy Morgan -- MG: Demi Lovato

Surprisingly decent episode overall. It wasn't any kind of pity party, and Morgan was most definitely funnier here overall than when he hosted in 2012.

Re: Sicario (2015) D: Villeneuve S: Blunt, Del Toro

It's not like that now, no. His complaints are actually founded. If you've never actually lived there then just stop now before you start typing.

Re: The Martian (Scott, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

A filmmaker is never obligated to be faithful to source material. Making the absolute best film you possibly can should be the goal for any director or artist.

Re: John Wick 2 (D: Stahelski) S: Keanu Reeves

I love how blunt Keanu is. He gets it.

Re: The Martian (Scott, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Exactly. Nolan didn't have guidelines. That is why his film is the more disappointing of the two.

How do you pronounce the title? Is it with a hard C?

Re: The Martian (Scott, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Maybe, but it's still the more disappointing of the two given the material.

Re: The Martian (Scott, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Just saw it. It was good, nothing more. Competently made from top to bottom but still never once approaches greatness, and therein lies the disappointment. As with the book, the comedy entertains...

Actually that African accent was damn near perfect. But I totally get why people would make this mistake.

Re: The X-Files (FOX) -- Season 10 coming January 24, 2016

I wonder if they're even going to mention that Mulder and Scully have a son, William, who should be a teenager by now. Or if they're just going to pretend that that entire storyline never even...
