Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

Got in the mail earlier today a Metamorphosis cd by "The Dark Side of The Moon" side-project of Melissa Bonny which features a harp player and guitarist from a german volk metal band Feuerschwanz,...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

I was listening again more closely to Visions of Atlantis' first album "Eternal Endless Infinity". If one drops the obvious "meToo Nightwish"-y sounding songs, the remaining songs have a very...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

In the case of black metal, I never really got into it much.

The only black metal sounding title I ever listened to a lot, was "Towards the Skullthrone of Satan" by Enthroned which was released...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

I didn't really pay much attention to then-current metal bands during the 1990s and into the 2000s. Whatever metal stuff I was coming across, it was largely in the form of $2 titles found at thrift...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

I eventually found several of the early-mid 1990s era Napalm Death cds in the $2 dump bins or used record stores, such as: Suffer The Children, Utopia Banished, Death By Manipulation, etc ...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

I didn't know what to make of the carcass record covers either. On the surface at the time, it didn't look like a typical "metal" record.

In the case of early napalm death records, the song titles...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

Slightly earlier, I found some napalm death and carcass "peel sessions" records at a then-local used record store. At the time, I didn't know what they sounded like. I figured it was low risk at...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

Heh. I never thought I would have ever see something like this.

Live camcorder footage from a 1988 Repulsion concert where they play a cover of "Knocking on Heaven's Door" and leading into "The...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

Listening to Dragony's 2021 release "Viribus Unitis", which sounds like power metal with keyboard parts that sound like a 19th century waltz.

The album stars off with a rendition of Johann Strauss...

Re: Bonus material - Waste of time or do you like knowing more about the movie?

The only bonus material which I watched many times, was Blade Runner. Both the criterion laserdisc and the briefcase dvd versions.

Otherwise for most other titles, I just watch it once or twice...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

I recently did a deep dive on the Amaranthe and Dynazty back catalogs.

For whatever reasons, I found most of Amaranthe's older catalog titles to be somewhat unmemorable in spite being catchy...

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?

The times my parents had a car, they usually tuned into stations that played classical music.

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?

I didn't really listen to the radio nonstop back in the day. Not even in the background.

Going through the songs on Rumours, the only one I immediately recognize is "Don't Stop Thinking About...

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?

When I first heard "Another Brick In The Wall", I was young enough to have thought it was kinda funny in a manner similar to Alice Cooper's "Schools Out". Like a silly "anthem". So initialy I...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

If I had to guess, that $20 differential between standalone dvd and bluray players, might have to do with the fact that bluray is still patent encumbered.

In most of the world, a standalone dvd...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

Besides libraries and the few remaining video rental places, wonder who is buying all those dvd-only variants.

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

I think I found the perfect background music for me, to play at home in a loop. I decided to order Metalite's past three cds, which came in the mail recently.

- Biomechanicals (2019)
- A Virtual...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

Back in the day circa late 1980s / early 1990s before grunge became popular, the various punk rock concerts had plenty of women showing up.

Whether such women were "hot", was dependent on whether...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

Did a recent deep dive into the back catalog of Visions of Atlantis. This is one wildly inconsistent band, where the primary songwriter changes frequently. The only consistent member is the drummer...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

Thanks for bringing up Dynazty.

I looked up Dynazty on youtube. (I haven't heard them before).

The singer sounds a lot more versatile than his performances on recent Amaranthe songs, with more...

Re: The Official METAL! Thread- Metalcore, Thrash, Progressive, Death, and MORE

Another similar case I encountered is a swedish metal band that is still on metal archives web site, but who sounds even "lighter" than Amaranthe. I first came across Metalite, before encountering...

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?

At the time, I didn't really care for it because it seemed too synth-heavy and poppy, but a couple of decades later I can really appreciate as being sort of 80s cyberpunk fabulous. As a piece of...
